Ashton under Lyne Swimming Club capped off their excellent season in style last month by winning the coveted Celebration Gala at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.

The gala followed the conclusion of the league season, in which Ashton were victorious for the fifth campaign in a row.

There were high hopes for a win, as the club fielded almost a full-strength team of forty-two swimmers aged between 8 and 33, and they didn’t disappoint.

Made up of 29 relay races between 100m and 200m across all four strokes, the gala saw Ashton pick up numerous wins, with plenty of personal bests (PB’s) smashed along the way.

ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE Swimming Club rounded off another outstanding season in style by winning the prestigious Celebration Gala at Manchester Aquatics Centre.

The event saw Ashton compete against seven other local teams, with a squad of 42 swimmers aged between eight and 33 taking part in 29 relay races across all four strokes.

Having already claimed the league title for the fifth year in a row, expectations were high as the team looked to complete another unbeaten campaign.

A proud moment for Ashton Swimming Club this morning as our very own chairman, Steve Shilley, appeared on BBC Breakfast to talk about grassroots volunteering 👏

As a fully volunteer-run club, everything we do is powered by the dedication of our amazing team. All membership fees go straight back into the club—covering essentials like pool hire, coach transport, and trophy engraving—so it was a real honour for Steve to represent us and share our story.

To top it all off, today also marks Steve’s retirement from his paid job after an incredible 46 years of service 🎉

Congratulations, Steve—and thank you for everything you do for the club!
