Due to the sad passing of one of my full liveries I have a large stable in an American barn available. Would prefer assisted, part or full livery with prices starting from £260pm to include stable, grazing ( 24/7 in summer if wanted, daily in winter) haylage, straw, turnout and bring in. Very friendly yard with most of the liveries enjoying the great hacking out. Arena is due an upgrade when (if) the weather gets better! Secure tack room and trailer parking. I have a large room available to rent in a shared farmhouse plus stable/s for livery. Room is £75 per week including all bills. Very rural location, very peaceful. Must like dogs and cats though! Room available without stables. Might suit someone looking for part time yard work in exchange for accommodation

🔥 Strangles is a hot topic right now, we want to provide reassurance & facts.

ℹ️𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬? Strangles is a bacterial infection affecting a horse’s guttural pouches. It spreads through nose-to-nose contact or contaminated surfaces like yard equipment, water troughs, and clothing. 💧It can survive in water for up to 6 weeks!

ℹ️ 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬:
• 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬: High temperature (>38.5°C), swollen lymph nodes that burst, bilateral yellow discharge, sometimes a soft cough.
• 𝐀𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬: Milder symptoms, often mistaken for other infections. Can show the above signs but not always have abscesses.

Very rarely there can be more serious cases & complications including Bastard strangles.

ℹ️ 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠:
• 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭: Looks for antibodies but can miss early infections. 10-14 days later it may show increased levels that would confirm the horse has been exposed to strangles.
• 𝐍𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐛: Best when nasal discharge is present but can give false negatives if taken too soon.
• 𝐆𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐠𝐞: The most accurate test. Under a small amount of sedation, a scope is placed up the nose and enters the GP. Most importantly used at the end of an outbreak to detect carriers.

ℹ️𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
• Avoid nose-to-nose contact between horses.
• Don’t share communal drinkers.
• Keep equipment clean and use disinfectants. Household disinfectant products are sufficient to keep your horse safe. 🧼

🗣️Positive communication is key. This is within and between yards, yard to vet practices and vets to vets.
