The Amazons played their final game of the season today and wanted to finish strong!
The first half seen a controlled and calm performance with moments that were scrappy on a bobbly pitch, but with an array of chances, Aycliffe’s keeper had a great half inbetween the sticks to keep the scoreline at 0-1 at the end of the first half after a lovely free kick from Jodie was dipped in and Woody headed it in at the back post.
Second half saw much of the same, a relentlessness about the Amazons! Pinning Aycliffe back at every opportunity.
Our second goal came on 68 minutes when Katelyn headed in a brilliant cross from Ava, only 3 minutes later we added to our lead when Sophie’s shot was blocked Gill reacted to smash it home, 83rd minute seen Ava’s cross/shot 🤷♀️ hit the bar, Becca M brought it down for Katelyn who laid it off to Woody who took it first time, Aycliffe’s Keeper thought it was going wide however it snuck in! We got our 5th and final goal again 3 minutes later after a lovely corner from Jodie Katelyn headed home.
Full time 3 points and a clean sheet to end the season!
After some uncertainty before the season started as to whether we had a team due to lack of players, we have gone from strength to strength, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who has contributed to that!
