5 years of The Pilates Box ✨🥂

Celebrating 5 years since I left the corporate world went self employed and set up on my own doing something I love and I’m passionate about❤️

When you leave security of a full time paid job it’s the biggest risk but it’s given me so much freedom and strength to work alongside having my children. They are inspired by mummy working for herself and running her own business ✨

My clients are the best we have such a wonderful community of like minded people all wanting to move and enjoy the power of Pilates together 🤍

Ever wondered what those springs on the reformer actually do? ⬇️

They add load and resistance to challenge the body and how it responds. It challenges mobility and stability building strength in the body.

We can make a movement more challenging by adding load or even by taking load away depending on the exercise given.

All reformers and springs are different and vary in colour so always best to check with the instructor what the spring load should be in an exercise. We all respond differently to spring load depending on our level of ability.

The Balanced body Allegro has 3 red springs which are the heavier springs, 1 blue which is a medium and 1 yellow which is the lightest option.

As an instructor it’s important I see how different makes of reformer feel when performing an exercise as they are all different. 2 reds on my reformer could feel a lot heavier on a different brand and make.

Pilates Principles ✨

Breathe - by using lateral thoracic breathing by breathing into the ribs. Inhaling deeply and exhaling through the mouth.

Concentration - focusing on the movement and blocking everything else out, connecting body and mind

Centring - all movement comes from a strong centre or ‘core’ Pilates is controlled by contraction of our deep abdominal muscles. Focusing on strengthening these deep core muscles

Control - with move with control through the exercises focus on quality over quantity. Good technique with fewer reps is better than rushing through

Precision - Correct alignment is key, always repeating exercises to master the fundamentals

Flow - Pilates should flow to create controlled movement through concentric and eccentric phases
