The Silent Killer of Ambulance Crew: Happens After the Sirens Stop

Ever wonder what happens to a paramedic’s and ambulance staff's bodies after years of rushing into chaos, lifting patients, and fighting to save lives in impossible situations? Let me tell you, it doesn’t retire gracefully.

Knees that buckled under stretchers for decades scream in pain. Backs give out from endless lifting, twisting, and bending, often with little regard for proper posture when seconds meant the difference between life and death. Shoulders are literally worn down to the bone. And those aren’t the worst scars.

The sleepless nights, the endless adrenaline dumps, and the trauma witnessed don’t just disappear. They sit heavy on your chest long after you’ve hung up your uniform. The anxiety doesn’t turn off. The flashbacks still hit.

Many paramedics and ambulance crew don’t get to enjoy retirement. The career eats away at their bodies and minds so much that by the time they can rest, it’s already too late. Some never live long enough to spend the pension they earned. Others spend their golden years in doctor’s offices, on operating tables, or in physical therapy trying to fix what couldn’t be avoided.

It’s not just a job. It’s a sacrifice, one that doesn’t end when the last shift does.

So if you know a crew thank them. If you are one, take care of yourself while you still can. Because this job might save lives, but it takes pieces of you in return.

We don’t talk about this enough. Maybe it’s time we do.

Today’s match was a fantastic one. I am going to say something I have never been able to say before as a referee.
“Today I had total respect from every player throughout the whole game”!!!
To me this is amazing and would be great if all games were so hard fought and so so respectful to, not only me but each other. I may sound a little over the top, but I was proud to be part of today.
Thank you and well done each and everyone. ⚽️

In what the BBC Sports pages have deemed the Derby to end all derby's, Honiton Dino's took on the Ancient Otters, on their home turf at the Honiton Led centre. A big crowd was expected as parking at the ground was full, and the crowd poured in through the turnstiles before kick off (thanks Gary). The first 15 was a cagey affair, but the Dino's took the lead through a penalty thanks to Jason. The 2nd 15 was a little different and the dinos stretched their lead to 4 - 1, and it must be said keepers on both sides were having excellent games between the sticks. The Otters forced themselves back into the game in the next 15, and going into the last 15 it was a winners takes all. The final 15 proved to be the Otters undoing as the dinos pulled out a lead and finished the game winning 7 - 4.

The Dino's played some excellent one touch football across the hour, this helped to leave the forward through on goal to take their chances. The goals were spread around between Jason, Alan, Rob and Phil (sorry if I missed anyone). Overall the Dino's football and teamwork was the key to their success, with the Otters using their rather good footballers to stay in the game.

Huge shout out to Pete and Dave for organising the game.

And let's not forget, without Ray these games fall apart, and once again he was magnificent with the whistle, keeping those of us with a hot head under control and disciplined. Thanks as always

Player of the Match (Dino's)
I thought this would be hard to call, but on review I think its one of the easiest I have done. The whole of the Dino's team were outstanding, Jason did well Jason things.... Rob was everywhere, and had an excellent stint in goal. Phil linked the play well when up front, the two Pete's and myself were good at the back, but Dino's best player today was Alan, he was everywhere and got on the scoresheet at least a couple of times.

Well played Alan

Great game today against the Exeter Ladies. The game was fun and well fought. Well done everyone
