🔵⚪️ Penmaenmawr Phoenix 3–5 Holyhead Hotspur Girls 🐝 u13s
What a way to start our league campaign! 👏
Today saw us travel to Penmaenmawr for our first league game of the season, and what a game it turned out to be!
Holyhead started the stronger side, getting stuck in from the first whistle and taking the game to Penmaenmawr.
⚽ 1–0 Holyhead
Millie Ryan broke through on goal and finished superbly, driving a low, powerful effort past the Penmaenmawr goalkeeper. 👏
Penmaenmawr responded with a wonder strike into the top corner, giving Lucy absolutely no chance and bringing the game level at 1–1.
But Holyhead responded brilliantly.
⚽ 1–2 Holyhead
Millie Ryan was at it again, producing another fantastic driving run from midfield before finishing another low effort beyond the goalkeeper. 💪
Just before half-time, Holyhead extended their lead.
⚽ 1–3 Holyhead
Mia Bailey produced a wonder strike of her own, with a 20-yard effort that flew into the top corner. A fantastic goal and a real contender for goal of the season! 👏💪
Second half
The second half saw Holyhead tested on a few occasions by a determined Penmaenmawr side, but the girls stood firm and defended brilliantly.
Holyhead continued to create chances and were unlucky not to add to the scoreline.
Noori Khan came incredibly close, heading the ball against the crossbar from a corner. The ball was then cleared off the line before falling perfectly for Jess England-Backhouse, who made no mistake and poked the ball home.
⚽ 1–4 Holyhead Hotspur 💪👌
Credit to Penmaenmawr, though. They were never out of the game and continued fighting right until the end.
They scored two similar, well-taken goals from distance, making it 3–4 and putting the pressure back on Holyhead. 👏
But Mia Bailey wasn’t finished yet…
⚽ 3–5 Holyhead
Mia picked the ball up around midfield and produced a fantastic solo run, skilfully dribbling between players before finishing brilliantly to put the game beyond doubt and secure all three points for Holyhead. 👏🔥

There were far too many standout performances to single one player out today, which made choosing a Player of the Match incredibly difficult.
Every single girl played their part, worked hard for each other and showed great character throughout the game. 💙🤍
