We neglected to post about last week's result because honestly how much can you say about a 1-8 loss without sounding like you're playing a tiny violin?

Today's result, while not significantly improved is caveated with the fact that we had a bare 11 squad. A fantastic effort from the 11 that showed up today, as some are not used to starting let alone playing 90 minutes, and others had to play well out of position. We always knew it was going to be a tough day at the office.

A big shout out goes to Aaron Moan for coming out of retirement for perhaps the 5th (6th, 7th?) time, to ensure we had a starting 11. He capped his performance off with an unfortunate own goal. In all seriousness though, had he not offered to help we would have had to play with 10 or concede the match, so it was hugely appreciated.

Our MOTM for today was Fin Short, who put in a cracking shift at CB, a new position for him. Solid in the air, great challenges and and an all-round good shift. Have we found a new CB that will let Craig and/or Jordan retire?

An honourable mention should also go to Lewis Hunt who, in only his third start, put in a great performance at LB. Not much got past him and when it did he made sure not to drop his head and got back round to recover. Two good matches on the bounce for him.

Our sole goal came from the penalty spot, courtesy of Owen Avery, back on penalty duties - a fine strike off the post. Well done to Luc Vile for winning it.

Goals: Owen Avery
MOTM: Finley Short
DOTD: Aaron Moan or Rowan Seldon-Green, I'm not quite sure what the final decision was.

After another postponement followed by last weekend without a fixture, we are hopeful that this weekend will see us playing again.

Heavy rain is forecast on Thursday, but there are dry spells throughout the week so we'll see.

We are delighted to be hosting an Easter quiz at Country Ways on Saturday 28th March.

This event will help raise important funds to keep the club going.

All details per the post but please message the page if you have any queries at all.

If people could share this so we can ensure it gets fully booked that would be hugely appreciated.

In what was possibly one of the few matches in the area to go ahead yesterday, we saw a repeat of the scoreline against Fremington 3rds in the YMCA Cup.

We opened the scoring early on with Oli Hunt and Scott Ford playing a neat one-two, allowing Oli to finish at the near post.

The second goal was another good finish, this time a volley from James Avery on the edge of the box after a bit of pinball following a corner.
Our final goal came as a result of excellent anticipation from Sam Kanj. Oli Hunt took a speculative shot which the keeper spilled, and Sam was there to fire in the rebound.
We had a fourth disallowed for offside, which is a shame as it would have been the pick of the bunch.
At half time we were 3-1 up, having conceded despite Rowan's best efforts in goal - he made the first save in a one on one, but nothing could be done about the rebound.

The second half saw far fewer chances for us and Fremington kept knocking on our door, pe***ng us back to 3-2 about halfway through the half.
But ultimately we held on and secured the 3 points.

MOTM: Oli Hunt, a goal and a sort of assist, getting involved all over the pitch
DOTD: Lucas Vile, for taking 5 minutes to put on a hoodie

Our next match sees us face Morwenstow at home, weather depending!

This match will take place at Tarka Leisure Centre, with a 13:15 KO.

It would be good to see some people there supporting the team.

After our last two matches have been unsurprisingly postponed, this week's match will go ahead at Tarka Leisure Centre with a 1:30 KO should our pitch still be unplayable, which is quite likely.

We will update this post should the match be moved there.

Defeat at home.

We went into this match in good spirits, off the back of two wins and this translated into a good first half, albeit one of few chances. We took the lead following great pressing from Sam Kanj which forced a keeper error, allowing Sam to tap in from close range - his first goal for High Bick in his first game.
Not too much else of note in the first half other than some staunch defending to maintain the 1-0 advantage at half-time.

It was however, a game of two halves. Torridgeside scored twice in quick succession early on after the restart, and unfortunately heads dropped with another two following in due course. We did have one good chance to peg them back with Owen Avery through one on one against the keeper but a good save forced a corner, or so you'd think as a goal kick was given instead.

MOTM: Archie James for a fantastic shift in the midfield on his first start for the club
DOTD: James Howes... for breaking two of his fingers???

Onto the next match, home to Sandymere Blues on 24th January.
