I always been involved in sport from a very early age and have enjoyed every minute of it. I have been very lucky that whichever school I attended had very good PE teachers who were able to give me excellent tutelage. I played practically every sport at school and for the school including basketball, football, rugby, cricket, badminton, and athletics. I had various trials to play some of the above at much higher levels however my first taste of professionalism was when I had trials for Manchester City football club as a teenager even though I did not get taken on and was disappointed, I learned it’s not just talent that you need to succeed, it also takes hard work. I became involved in martial arts first becoming involved with Judo then Shotokan Karate, discovering how to use the Chinese weapon Nunchaku but my favourite martial art was Thai Boxing which I eventually went on to compete in the ring I still do Thai Boxing to this this day for fitness. It was about this time when I really got into the fitness and the training metholodgy behind the gym and what it can do for fitness goals, I was hooked. I went to use what I had learnt in the Gym to compete in several Cross-training competitions across the region an UK. Behind the scenes I was still playing Basketball and once again I did apply myself to this sport which involved putting in the extra hours that nobody sees both in and out of the gym. I was rewarded with a professional contract with Oldham Celtics basketball club. This was one of my proudest moments because at same time my brother Earl Barrett ex professional footballer and England international was also playing for Oldham Athletic football Cub and both teams were doing well. We got into several local newspapers, and I was interviewed on National TV.I had the pleasure of playing for Oldham Celtics in a European competition playing French team Monaco at home and away . We did not go through to the next round because even though we beat them in Monaco they beat us by more at home in Oldham, they went through on aggregate results. That’s about it, I decided that I would put all the above to good use and give something back to sport help people get something out of fitness and wellbeing as have done so at the age of 55(2021) I have also completed my Personal Trainer qualification to add weight to my knowledge and experience. A process of testing current levels of fitness and creating a plan that pushes your heart rate to levels required to meet your specific fitness goals. Re-test and let the goals speak for themselves. Create a progress plan where volume of weight lifted increases over time and the body is eating in a calorie surplus creating the ideal environment to build muscle.

3- MUSCLE BUILDING
By this I refer to loss of body fat through creating a calorie deficit within the body. I do this by educating and emphasising the importance of nutrition whilst using training techniques to turn the body in to a calorie burning machine..

4- HEALTH
This is what all of our goals should revolve around. Living longer, being happier and functioning better by being more active, eating a nutrient rich diet and controlling stress better.

Good days when i was playing Basketball for Oldham Celtics, we got into Europe and played Monaco at Monaco and beat them but they beat us at home in Oldham. At the same time Glenn Hoddle(pictured at the back in the middle) was playing football for Monaco and my brother Earl was playing football for Oldham Athletic. Over 35 years ago , where has that time gone? I am front row left 😁

Exercise for Stress and Anxiety

The physical benefits of exercise — improving physical condition and fighting disease — have long been established, and physicians always encourage staying physically active.
Exercise is also considered vital for maintaining mental fitness, and it can reduce stress. Studies show that it is very effective at reducing fatigue, improving alertness and concentration, and at enhancing overall cognitive function. This can be especially helpful when stress has depleted your energy or ability to concentrate.
When stress affects the brain, with its many nerve connections, the rest of the body feels the impact as well. Or, if your body feels better, so does your mind. Exercise and other physical activity produce endorphins — chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers — and also improve the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress.
Scientists have found that regular participation in aerobic exercise has been shown to decrease overall levels of tension, elevate and stabilize mood, improve sleep, and improve self-esteem. About five minutes of aerobic exercise can begin to stimulate anti-anxiety effects.

Physical activity is not only good for your body, but it's also great for your mind.
