Here it is, the start of a new grassroots season and with that comes a feeling of optimism in the air as its a new begin for the all new Hessle Sporting Raptors.
The lads began this new season, looking very dapper in new kit, and that freshness must have rubbed off as they put in an imperious display in Walkington, Beverley.
The lads were out of the traps from the word go and were dominant in the first half.
First on the score sheet was Riley W, with a great strike from outside the box that had the Mill Lane Lions keeper bamboozled. 1-0
Next on the score sheet was Mason with a tidy finish in the box after good work from Josh. 2-0
Josh then turned provider again as he set up Archie for a close range finish. 3-0
Ben then got himself on the scoresheet from the penalty spot, after he was brought down in the box after going on a mazey run. 4-0
Kajetan then grabbed himself his first of two goals with thumping volley from the edge of the box after Mill Lane Lions struggled to clear a lofted ball into the box from from Oliver.
Mill Lane Lions then rallied and got a goal back, but normal service was resumed as Riley P (Ginge) buried a chance with a worldie of a strike again from outside the box.
Half Time: 6-1
The second half had an element of flatness about it, after such a dominant first half display, yet the lads remained competitive and played some nice stuff, moving the ball from the back and through midfield, but it was Mill Lane Lions who was next on the scoresheet to make it 6-2.
However any thoughts the opposition had of a late rally where extinguished as the Raptors pushed forward again and Edward thumped the ball home after confusion in the Mill Lane Lions box. 7-2
That wasnt it though for the scoring for the day as Kajetan grabbed his second of the game as he steered a header past the advancing goalkeeper after a lovely dipping ball over the top of the defence from Riley P.
Final score: 8-2
Parents MOTM - Riley P (Ginge) & Mason: Both joint winners from the parents. Riley P continues to grow in the centre back role and the position allows him range to see the game infront of him and dictate play, be creative and start attacks for the Raptors. He's also scoring some cracking goals from the position as shown today.
Mason, bagged himself a goal in the central strikers role as his power and pace made him a handful for the Mill Lane Lions defence all day.
Coaches MOTM: THE TEAM - Not somthing we like to do often as it always seems a bit of a kop out, but today we couldn't pick one individual. They all played their part, played for one another and put in a real impressive display. No negatives. Just a really, really good display.
Special Mentions: James and Saul. Both made there competitive first team debuts today for the Hessle Sporting Raptors.
James put in a commanding display at centre back, looking assured and doing the basics well.
Saul, continues to impress since his arrival and his enthusiasm is infectious. To say he's playing a year up, you would never guess with his terrier like, combative displays.
