Calculating your calorie deficit

‘Why am i not losing fat?’
‘I think I’m in a deficit I dont eat much’
‘I dont want to restrict what I can eat’

These are some common things I hear from clients/members when talking about weight loss/ fat loss goals.

-For those that dont track calories (im not saying its a must) do you actually know if you are meeting the requirements of your daily macros and calories your body needs in order to decrease weight/body fat and maintain your muscle?
-Do you know if you are getting enough protein?
-Are you actually eating in a deficit?
-Are you eating in a suitable deficit to maximise your results?

A period of tracking your food intake could be an eye opener to some👀

Not being aware of how much you are consuming could be the culprit to your stalled progress!

Being in a calorie deficit doesn’t mean you have to limit what food you eat.

Technically, you can eat anything and still lose weight as long as you are in a deficit.

With a flexible approach, you can enjoy the foods you love, enjoy some drinks on the weekend and still lose weight.

However, there are some things to consider and prioritise such as:
-Protein
-Satiating foods
-Nutrient dense foods

To help you get started, here is a simple calculation to workout your total calories and macros. I would recommend staying in a smaller deficit in order to:
1. Make it sustainable and enjoyable
2. Maintain your muscle

Combining this with a structured plan, focusing on resistance training and implementing progressive overload will maximise your results

If you would like help implementing this effectively with a structured plan to maximise your results, drop me a message to get started

Hit a fat loss plateau? Feel like giving up?
Have you considered these 3 steps?

Ive been there

First few weeks on your fat loss journey you are flying. Losing weight each week. Looking in the mirror and seeing positive changes.

Then your progress starts to slow down. You dont see much change for a week, maybe longer.

And this is the point you start to give up on your hard efforts.

So my question to you is, have you:

1. Tracked your calorie/macro intake accurately- Be sure to include the oils you use on your frying pan. Accurately log the grams of sauce you used on your food. These are the common ‘hidden’ calories people forget to track.

2. Ensure you have actually reached a plateau in the first place- a weight loss journey does not go down in a straight line. Your weight fluctuates daily. So just because your weight has gone up slightly from the previous day, doesnt mean you are getting heavier.

3. Increased cardio OR reduced calorie intake - If you have hit a plateau, you can burst through by slightly increasing your activity/cardio or slightly reducing your calorie intake.

PLEASE NOTE- dropping calorie intake every time you hit a plateau is not sustainable as you will finally hit a point where you feel drained physically and mentally, and you wont be able to hit your adequate macro and micronutrients with such a low intake. This is when ‘diet breaks’ can be implemented.

I hope this helps,
