Started the day with a walk in the hills to the Nant y Car lead mine, or at least the abandoned workings thereof. Clear evidence of the recent wildfires which was sobering. My quads were complaining on the way down.

Then it was out on the bike for an hour up to Llyn Brianne dam.

Fan-y-Big, Cribyn, Pen-y-Fan and Corn Du all completed with full visibility. In some ways it was easier when I didn’t know what was ahead

Bike ride day: lovely weather for it. Headed towards & thru Llandovery and Llangadog where I paused to fix a puncture. Rode thru Bethlehem (!!!) and then a long climb: past Carn Goch Iron Age hill fort, past the trig point on Pen-y-Lan (I think that’s where it was), short descent followed by another climb to the destination of today’s ride, Carreg Cennen castle. Brief pause then more climbing and a stop to take in the view back where I had come, then a very rapid, and much deserved descent back the way I’d come.

A good day if a tad tiring for these old legs

Catching up on last week’s walk: stage 3 of the Thames Path from Putney to Richmond. Distance of just under 9 miles.

After a boat ride from Embankment to Putney Bridge, we started the walk past a flurry of boat clubs with rowers on the river, following the course of the boat race, past Mortlake, Barnes & Hammersmith bridges. After Kew Bridge we moved away from urbanisation for a while into less built up, secluded woodland walking past Kew Gardens & Old Deer Park. TBH it was the least inspiring stage so far: at times it was like walking thru a forested tunnel. The crowds when we rejoined civilisation at Richmond was a bit of a culture shock. The boat back to Westminster was a relaxing way to end

Big ride today; Manifold Trail (the reverse of Tuesday), the Tissington Trail and part of the High Peak Trail. Very windy the whole day, sometimes with me & sometimes not, that’s just how it goes.

Mid-ride refreshments at FatBuns in Hartington, a fabulous cinnamon bun which didn’t last long
