So, it's 7 weeks until She Strides Ultra, and we are starting to think about race day nerves. We know, from experience, women won't turn up on race day if they don't believe they are ready. Do we ever feel truly ready for an ultra? Especially if it's our biggest race to date?
So let's reframe it:
Why do we call it a race? Let's be honest most of us don't actually race it, unless we intend to be out front, so let's drop the idea of "race" let's say we are going on an adventure. A day out. Make it fun.
Can you keep moving forward? Can you problem solve when it gets tough? You might have to walk a bit more, you might need to adjust fueling plans, but you can walk the hills with a snack & keep going. Every step is one step nearer the end and you will be so proud of yourself for staying in it.
It's perfectly normal to be fearful about distance. It's perfectly normal to be fearful about your ability. Almost every woman on the start line has wondered if she belongs there.
She Strides Events have a lovely community atmosphere, our ethos is that everyone belongs, everyone is capable and our women only adventure has a 100% finish rate, so if you are brave enough to get to the start line, we will get you to the end.
Your fear means you care. You are scared because it matters. You are going to be more disappointed if you don't try, so let's see what happens when you show up.
If you want to feel more confident with the route come to a recce, there's 3 left. If you want to feel more confident with the distance our metric marathon is a great last long run. If you would like someone to run with talk to us about pairing you up.
You are ready. You are enough. Come take up space.
