๐Ÿ›Ÿ Float to Live ๐Ÿ›Ÿ
If you unexpectedly fall into water, especially cold water, remember: Float to Live.
Cold water shock can happen in seconds. It can cause gasping, panic, and difficulty breathing, which is why the first moments are so important.
Instead of trying to swim straight away:
โœ… Tilt your head back, ears submerged
โœ… Relax and focus on controlling your breathing
โœ… Use gentle movements to help you float
โœ… Once youโ€™ve regained control, call for help or swim to safety if possible
Floating can give you vital time to recover your breathing and think clearly.

๐Ÿ›Ÿ Rookie Lifeguard & Lifesaving ๐Ÿ›Ÿ
Our lifesaving programme starts from as young as 5 where they start to learn basic lifesaving skills like how to spot dangers, dial 999, basic first aid and rescue skills all whilst having fun.
Once children are slightly older they will then begin the Rookie Lifeguard programme, Rookies learn much more than swimming, they develop survival skills, water safety awareness, teamwork and confidence.
Our Rookie Lifeguard programme gives young swimmers the opportunity to take part in fun, practical challenges while learning important lifesaving knowledge in a safe environment.
As they progress, swimmers grow in confidence, responsibility and awareness in and around water.
Once Children have completed their Rookie Lifeguard badges they will then progress further with their skills going on to complete the National Lifesaving academy programme.
*Sessions are subject to availability.

Royal Life Saving Society UK's Drowning Prevention Week

๐Ÿ’› Speak up. Be a Mate. ๐Ÿ’›
Water safety isnโ€™t just about knowing the risks, itโ€™s about looking out for each other and making safer choices together.
Before a mate jumps in, messes around with inflatables, or does something risky near or in waterโ€ฆ speak up.
Real mates look out for each other. If something doesnโ€™t feel safe, donโ€™t stay quiet. A simple word could help prevent an accident and keep everyone safer around water.
This is especially important for young people and teenagers, where peer pressure and risk-taking can increase danger around water. Learning how to make safe choices, and having the confidence to speak up, can make a real difference.

Learning to swim is one of the most important life skills.
At Heanor & Lifesaving Club, our swimming lessons follow the STA International Learn to Swim Programme, helping swimmers build confidence, water competence and essential safety awareness.
Swimmers progress through a structured pathway of STA awards and certificates, celebrating achievement at every stage as skills develop in a fun and supportive environment.
Swimming is more than learning strokes, itโ€™s about confidence, safety and enjoyment in the water.

๐Ÿ’› We Support Drowning Prevention Week ๐Ÿ’›
This week, weโ€™re proud to support Drowning Prevention Week and help raise awareness of the importance of water safety.
Every year, preventable incidents around water affect families and communities. By learning water safety knowledge and swimming skills, we can all help make time in and around water safer.
At Heanor Swimming & Lifesaving Club, we believe swimming is more than a sport, itโ€™s a life skill that builds confidence, awareness and enjoyment in the water.
Throughout the week, weโ€™ll be sharing water safety messages and showcasing how our programmes support safer, more confident swimmers.
๐Ÿ’› Everyone can learn skills that help make water safer. Come and be part of our swimming and lifesaving journey.

Happy pride month

This Pride Month, we proudly stand alongside our LGBTQ+ members, volunteers, trainers, lifeguards, and supporters. Together, we can continue building an environment where everyone feels welcome, where everyone can be themselves, and where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the incredible individuals who make up our lifesaving community. At RLSS UK, we believe that everyone should feel safe, respected, and empowered to participate in activities like lifeguarding and lifesaving sport regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or background.

Because lifesaving is for everyone.

Join us this Drowning Prevention Week as we continue working towards a future where everyone can enjoy water safely, together: www.rlss.org.uk/dpw
