Further to our previous post about Matthew Langton's surgery and ongoing recovery, the football card has arrived and is already being filled out at the King's Arms pub in Haxey!

Last week's local derby at Haxey was one for the books! Westwoodside, on a ten-match winning streak, came to face an in-form Kings side. We were ready to put a stop to their run, and while Westwoodside took the lead in the first half, Kings controlled possession and the game. However, creating chances in the final third proved challenging.

Despite the tough battle throughout the full 90 minutes, and a serious injury to our consistent midfielder Matthew Langton, who suffered a leg break from a tackle, we didn't give up. Matthew has since had surgery, and we all wish him the speediest of recoveries. The game did get heated, and Westwoodside also sustained some minor injuries. In the end, we managed to score in the final minute, ending Westwoodside's impressive run.

We're now raising money for Matthew with a 100-team football card. Unfortunately, he'll be unable to work until he's back on his feet. The card will be £10 per team, with a £200 prize for the winner, and the rest going to support Matthew during his time off work as he's self-employed. We're sure any local footballer or fan can understand how difficult this is. Details on how to enter will be posted in due course.

Everyone at Kings Arms FC is saddened to hear the passing of such a great guy, we send our deepest condolences to family and friends, our thoughts are with you all 💙

Everybody connected with Cross Keys FC was devastated to learn the recent passing of our close friend and biggest supporter Ellis Birrell in the early hours of Saturday morning on November 1st. After battling against a short illness, Ellis passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and partner, Charlotte.

Ellis, known to many as Buddy, epitomised the true meaning of being a Keysman. Although he never made an appearance for the club despite our best efforts to change this, his impact on the club was huge and there for everyone to see. A truly irreplaceable character amongst the group, every match day Sunday without fail would start with an inspirational message in the chat from buddy, something we will all miss waking up to. Year in year out, home or away, there he was wearing his Keys best, cheering the boys on. Ellis regularly joined in with training as an old fashioned target man, he simply loved Cross Keys and has been a big part of the journey since our inception in 2021.

Away from football, he was an amazing son, an amazing brother and an amazing friend to so many.

He was completely unique and irreplaceable, and for that we are so proud to have called him one of us.

Everything we do Bud, we’ll do it for you. Your memory will be carried with us for as long as we continue.

Once a Keysman, always a Keysman.

🇬🇧 REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 🇬🇧

This weekend, we pause to remember and honour all those who gave their lives for our country. 🌺

Our teams will proudly wear poppy armbands across all matches as a mark of respect, and before each game we will hold a minute’s silence to remember the fallen.

We will also be collecting donations at each match this weekend, with all proceeds going to our local Poppy Appeal, which will be presented at the Haxey Remembrance Service on Tuesday.
