Guestling 45 Beckley 45

After a very narrow victory closely followed by an even narrower defeat, the drawn outcome of this one seemed almost inevitable. The changing line-up for Guestling shows the improving strength in depth of the club. As always a very enjoyable and sociable afternoon was enjoyed by all at Beckley.

Brian, Paul J. and Ian T. lost 12-16

Annette, Roger and Michael won 18-14

Andy Eld, Karl and Shirley drew 15--15

Guestling 64 Cranbrook 65

Defeat by the narrowest of margins on yet another blustery day at Guestling. It was a real struggle for some and for once the concerted effort after tea fell just short of requirements.

Ian and Michael won 21-10

Sandra, Chris L and Roy lost 14-17

Russell, Shirley and Andy Ell lost 7-24

Paul J, Karl and Pete won 22-14

Guestling 49 St.Leonards 47

A very close call but a successful outcome in the end. A slightly chaotic start resulted from the opposition arriving with only three triples without prior information. Hasty rearrangement of the playing groups was necessary and this may have been partially responsible for the underwhelming start by the home team. Thanks go to the Guestling players who stepped down voluntarily to facilitate change to the playing groups.
The extremely blustery weather added to the difficulties on the day but a battling performance after tea led to a very narrow win against opponents who challenged meaningfully right through to the last wood.

Christine/Brian, Garry and Andy Ell lost 13-17

Nigel.D, Shirley and Mark drew 17-17

Lance, Ian T and Peter won 19-13

PAIRS COMPETITION

A very competitive and enjoyable afternoon on Saturday in much milder weather conditions. It proved to be a full day as 20 members took part.
Thanks to Shirley and Roger for the organisation, to Sandra for the raffle and all who donated prizes. The finalists will reappear on Finals Day in August.

Guestling 69 Staplecross 46

Another successful home fixture with good performances all across the team as a much changed Guestling showed the strength in depth developing within the club. Once again congratulations to both teams for continued efforts in the high temperatures experienced all afternoon.

Ian T, Shirley and Peter won 24-8

Lance, Sandra and Andy Ell lost 12-15

Paul J, Karl and Roy won 19-10

Russell, Andy C and Garry won 14-13

Guestling 64 Iden 58

A very good overall win for Guestling with a less experienced team than in earlier fixtures. This brings the number of wins up to the same as the losses, time to kick on! Iden have undergone a disruptive period as their green is being re-layed but they have several players with extensive league experience so this was a good performance by the home team. Well done to both teams for keeping going in the heat and providing a tight finish in all the games.

Butch, Christine and Michael won 16-14

Russell, Sylvia and Sandra lost 16-18

Andy Eld, Phil and Shirley won 14-13

Linda H, Paul J, and Mark won 18-13.

Incidentally scores from our earlier fixtures have appeared on the Sussex World website and,I presume, in the Hastings Observer. Thanks very much to Frieda for organising this.

Guestling Bowls Club

100 Up competition was played this weekend, it proved very hot indeed for the early rounds but some incredibly close games emerged nonetheless. Congratulations to all the participants, especially to the semi-finalists pictured below. On an equally warm Sunday morning it was decided that the final would be postponed until Finals Day, with Shirley and Mark set to meet.

Guestling 73 Fairlight 51

A successful first home game against strong local rivals. Proof of the bowls adage that "everything changes after tea." After 9 ends Guestling trailed by 25-29 and were ahead in only one game (by 1point!). This was transformed into wins on 3 out of 4 rinks and a draw on the fourth. Congratulations to all who participated in the fightback and well done for keeping going on a very warm afternoon.

Russell, Phil and Andy Ell. drew 17-17

Terry/Paul J, John and Mark won 22-14

Lance, Chris L. and Roy won 21-10

Frieda, Shirley and Garry won 14-10

Guestling 90 Hellingly 46

What a way to kick-start the season with an emphatic first success away at Hellingly! Very good performances by everyone against a strong, well-established club. The final triple on the list included a "hot-shot" on the last end.

Andy Eld, Shirley and Garry won 19-12

Linda/Butch, Terry and Peter lost 10-19

Sandra, Roy and Michael won 17-11

Paul J, Phil and Andy Ell won 44-4
