After a busy few days for our Under-11s, we have finally had the chance to reflect on last Friday’s fantastic Parents Participate Session.

The coaches would like to extend a huge thank you to all the families who came along and joined in with such enthusiasm. The turnout was excellent, and it was wonderful to see so many parents getting involved alongside the players.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the session, and a few parents even demonstrated some of football’s more "creative" tactics—you know who you are!

A special congratulations also goes to Max, who was named the very first Middle Aisle Trainer of the Week. Max took home his well-earned prize: a solar-powered garden gnome.
Keep an eye out for next week’s winner and prize announcement!

⚽💙🅃🄷🄰🄽🄺 🅈🄾🅄, 🄿🅁🄸🄲🄴🅈 💙⚽

After 3½ years with Hollington Hawks, Scott "Pricey" has decided to take some time away from coaching.

It's difficult to put into words the impact he's had, not just on our club, but on grassroots football as a whole. With over 40 years involved in the game as both a player and manager, Pricey has earned the respect of everyone who has crossed his path in football, particularly around Hollington where he's a well-known and highly respected figure.

During his time with the Hawks, he's coached players from U10s through to U14s, supported the girls' teams, helped develop countless young footballers and shared a huge amount of knowledge with coaches and players alike.

There were times when we had 30+ children turning up to training with only a handful of coaches available, and Pricey never once stepped back from the challenge. Whether it was a cold Tuesday night training session, a weekend tournament, or simply offering advice and encouragement, he was always there.

But Pricey's contribution went far beyond coaching. He always found ways to create special memories for the players. From arranging opportunities for our young Hawks to walk out of the tunnel alongside the players, to organising a fun session at Hastings United's ground, he gave the children experiences they'll remember for years to come.

If something needed doing, Pricey was there. Coaching, refereeing, running the line, helping at tournaments, supporting other age groups, or simply lending a hand wherever it was needed. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

One thing that has always stood out is his belief that football should be for everyone. Every child deserved an opportunity, every child deserved game time, and every child deserved to enjoy their football. That's a philosophy that has left a lasting mark on our club.

He's also been a huge support to the coaching team, sharing his experience, knowledge and passion for the game. Many of us have learned a great deal from him over the last few years, and that influence will continue long after his break from the touchline.

From all the players, parents, coaches and committee members, thank you for everything you've done for Hollington Hawks. The time, effort, passion and commitment you've given has made a real difference to so many young people.

One last thing, Pricey...

As a dedicated Spurs man, we're pleased to confirm that Arsenal still haven't won the Champions League. Consider it our leaving present to you. 😉

Enjoy the well-earned rest, and thank you for everything you've done for the club, the coaches and, most importantly, the players.

Once a Hawk, always a Hawk.🦅

Match Report – U11s Hawks vs Hawkhurst

A strong performance from the Hawks today against an excellent Hawkhurst side.
We approached this friendly fixture with a clear objective: to put into practice some of the key principles and patterns we have been working on in training. The result itself was secondary to the development opportunities the game provided.

Hawkhurst started at a blistering pace and quickly established a significant lead during the opening quarter. Following some adjustments by the Hawkhurst coaching staff to create a more balanced contest, our boys began to find their rhythm. Displaying some excellent passages of football, the Hawks responded superbly and won the second quarter 2–0.

The third quarter saw the team continue to build momentum and apply pressure. Unfortunately, we were caught on the counter-attack and conceded from a fantastic strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance. The Hawks responded well, pulling another goal back and competing as equals for large periods of the game.

The final quarter was an entertaining end-to-end contest, with chances and goals at both ends. The highlight came from a superb team move down the wing, as Felix delivered a pinpoint cross for Teddy to finish clinically, capping off a beautifully worked team goal.
The scoreline was ultimately irrelevant in this encounter, with the coaches taking plenty of positives from the performance and the progress shown throughout the game. The afternoon concluded with a penalty shootout, where Reggie had the opportunity to showcase his excellent shot-stopping ability.

A huge thank you goes to the Hawkhurst coaching team for managing the game so well and for providing an immaculate playing surface that allowed both teams to play some excellent football.

Men of the Match: Ethan and Teddy (although the entire team could easily have been recognised)
Parents’ Player of the Match: Felix
Goals: Teddy ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
A special mention also goes to Bradley, who did an excellent job captaining the side, and to Archie, who made a very impressive debut for the Hawks.

It’s taken us 5 days to post about the charity game… mostly because the recovery time has been longer than expected ⚽😂

But what a night it was! A huge thank you to everyone who played, supported, donated and helped out. Together, we managed to raise an amazing £500 ❤️

All money raised will go back into the club to help support our families whenever needed, which makes the support even more appreciated. A brilliant night for a brilliant cause — thank you all 🙌

Hollington Hawks Vs Hastings Direct

A night that was a few months in the making came to fruition on Sunday as Hollington Hawks took to the Pilot Field to face a Hastings Direct eleven in memory and honour of our much loved coach and colleague Kieran Bassett.

The two teams took to the pitch in a sweltering 25 degree heat to the sound of a loud applause from a vibrant and plentiful crowd, hand in hand with Kierans under 11 side as our mascots and captained by Kierans brother Luke.

A quick look at the two team sheets tells you that Hollington are kitted out with plenty of middle aged dads who fall under the tag of "glorified helper-outer" against a Hastings side packed with county league players. This could be a boxing mis-match of epic proportions!

As expected, Hastings started quickly and brightly utilising their pace and footwork to open up three or four good opportunities in the opening phase of the game. Fortunately though the Hawks stopper started brightly too and managed to deal with the danger and keep the net intact.

Andy and George started as our centre back pairing and both stood firm to the task with Andy taking a toe injury early and George taking a clout to the side of his head. Neither seemed bothered. A crunching slide tackle from Chelsea was one for the reels and was greeted with a huge roar from all four sides of the busy ground.

Dave and Terry chipped in with the defensive duties from their full back roles and also made some nice passing movements to progress us up the pitch where Dan and James looked to make inroads.

Hastings had some quick players up top and tried a few through balls which were met with calls of "yeah your in" from the Hastings captain. Out to meet them all though was the Hawks keeper Matt.

As Hastings continued to press hard for a goal they got their opener. After some nice play to get in down their left a nicely squared ball was tucked away by the unmarked player in the middle.

Hastings carried on with the pressure and having been kept contained by the resolute backline of Hollington they found the way through to goal number two, a ball from the right picking out the runner to the back stick to tap home from two yards.

By this point however the Hawks had started to carve out some better openings up top, with James using good feet to open a yard of space and getting a shot away. A move he repeated a few times as we tried to find a return goal. The energetic Ben was always looking to progress us forward and use his foresight and trickery and Dan D on the left of midfield had combined nicely to help bring us out from defence to attack. Callum, despite claiming in the dressing room to "not really knowing what I'm doing" stuck to his task and gave a great account of himself.

Back down the other end Hastings never relented in their quest for goals which kept our back line busy and switched on throughout. A through ball took a nasty bobble and sent the ball away from our defender and as the Hastings striker bared down on goal the Hawks keeper got his timing and positioning spot on to make a fine block save, only for the rebound to fall to a red shirt who sent the ball goalwards as Matt and George both collapsed towards it in their efforts to keep it out. Three nil.

With Hastings buyed on with confidence they enjoyed a series of throw ins and corners, all of which were dealt with under the tutalige of Dan, guiding the boys with his voice and experience.

With the end of the half not far away we finally put the Hastings keeper into action with a press on him with the ball at his feet. Not exactly an effort on target but nice to see some pressure in their box.

The last chances of the half fell to Hastings with a low shot turned around the post and a peach of a corner delivered straight to a Hastings head who got a good contact on the ball to send it goalwards, only to see the man in purple fly across his goal and palm it to safety.

Half time and our lot of elders are, quite honestly, knackered. A lot of respect goes to Dave, George, Andy, Terry and Luke for keeping tabs on such a capable front line for a solid 45 minutes. Chelsea never shyed away from anything and demonstrated a great passing ability alongside Callum and Ben who both put in fine performances in the middle of the park. Luke had come on and looked more than assured in his play.

Almost a complete change of line up ensued at half time with the Hawks fielding a close resemblance to their normal adults matchday squad, with Franky taking his place between the sticks for the second half.

The balance of play was now much fairer and the know how of the regular team made it much more of a contest across the whole pitch. Finn and Tom looked lively in the full back roles and spread the width of the pitch really well. James combined with Finn down the left on several occasions to push the team forward and Theo put in an energetic performance in the middle, not giving Hastings any time to breathe on the ball. A cheeky effort from range from him to catch the keeper out wasn't too far off. Alongside him in the middle was Christopher who played with a maturity well beyond his years.

Last seasons top scorer Jack put more pressure on their back line and ran the channels well, getting the better of their full back time and again, using some neat close touches. He and his strike partner Chris "Skipps" giving them plenty to think about and test their well ranked centre backs.

Hastings though were still adamant they'd score against our more established players and a well driven effort across goal found the net to make it four.

A flurry of low efforts were all comfortably dealt with by Franky, sporting a tidy black spurs shirt in goal who was also quick off his line to deal with a through ball and send it to safety.

A well taken finish to the top corner and a one yard finish from a corner put the game out of sight for Hastings as the game tipped towards "can we get one?". We pressed and pressed for it but found our best efforts gathered by the Hastings keeper, who also demonstrated some pinpoint long kicks.

Another Hastings corner was collected by Franky who glued the ball to his hands perfectly then had the vision to throw out to our movement on the left which created a great opening. Quick thinking from the man in black and great back to front football.

Oscar, having volunteered to ref the first half took to the right side of midfield for the second half and added his pace and directness to the team and was instrumental in opening them up a few times down that side, linking well with Christopher and Skipp in particular.

Our back line in the second half was marshalled brilliantly by Dean alongside Charlie with some expert know-how on display and a great awareness of when to hold position and when to drive up. Chelsea came on to see out the game in defence too and as in the first half, gave a solid account of herself.

The score today was always going to be irrelevant. This was about putting on a tribute to our friend Kieran. He coached at Hollington Hawks. He worked at Hastings Direct. At 20 years of age he lost his life far too soon. He was a friend and colleague to us all. The plan is to hold this event annually in his honour so he is always a part of us.

This year the trophy went to Hastings Direct. Next year? You'll have to come and see....
