Work on your feet and your body will thank you.

Work on your feet and your body will thank you.

Change your environment and your body follows
👣
The human body is an adaptation machine - it reacts and is gradually shaped by the environment, movements and positions you expose it to
Expose it to little movement, lots of sitting and footwear that compresses and stiffens your foot and guess what? You end up with a body that forgot how to move, has stiff hips and feet that are weak and collapsed
The good news? Adaptation works both ways. Spend time restoring your mobility, moving around barefoot as able, wear natural footwear (flat, wide, flexible) and replace chair sitting with squatting and Voila!
Add a bit of patience and consistency and you have a totally new body that has adapted to the healthy environment you engineered
Start today with small changes in your environment. It matters too much to ignore

Ha the ring of pain!!!

Ha the ring of pain!!!

Haha 🤣

It’s more than 30 years since I trained as a physio but I’m still fascinated by anatomy and the mechanics of movement.

This morning I spent my entire yoga practice on a stool contemplating the weight on my sit bones and noticing the effect of tiny adjustments through my whole body.

I tend to think of the sit bones like the rockers or an armchair - this helps me to visualise that they have a pivot point. Like a rocking chair, you can come onto the front of the rockers which will take the pelvis into an anterior pelvic tilt or the back of them, taking the pelvis into a posterior tilt.

You cannot sit on the back of the sit bones and be in neutral pelvis. So if you are sitting on the floor in staff pose with your legs outstretched and have rocked onto the back of the sit bones, you will have lost your pelvic neutral and the lumbar curve will have come out of its natural backward facing curve. If you look like you are sitting up straight, then you have to be compensating elsewhere - most likely the mid-thoracic area.
