I never understood why some of my clients, who were recreational golfers could be so fixated with hitting a little white ball into holes for four hours at a time...that is until I decided to give it a try after the last lockdown was lifted and now I stand up and proudly say 'Hi, my name is Gee and I am a golf-a-holic!'
Fast forward ten months and you will find me hitting the range and golf courses on every given opportunity - the thing with golf is (for me anyway), is that it's not about being better than the people you play with, but more about being able to better yourself - the ultimate accolade being able to say that you have a respectable handicap!
The emergence of Tiger Woods changed the whole golf scene and now you'll see all the top golfers spending as much time in the gym with their conditioning coaches, as on grass with their technical golf coaches, which has enabled them to not only hit the ball further, but to be able to repeat the same movement over and over again, whilst reducing the risk of developing overuse injuries, or injuries due to poor body/postural biomechanics.
So, now I'm marrying my skills and experience as a fitness coach alongside the skills gained as a TPI (Titleist Performance Institution) Level 1 coach, to help all you recreational golfers out there, understand how your body's movement (or lack of!), could be causing you to develop certain swing characteristics, which could be affecting your game and how to address these movement restrictions - these corrective exercises, will not only be beneficial to your game, keep you injury free and prolong your golfing career, but there will be a huge carry over benefit to your everyday life in general.
If you or anyone you know are interested in knowing more about TPI's Golf Movement Screen and how your game could benefit from this, then send me a message and I'll get back to you!
Happy Golfing!
Gee
