Bridgemary endured a frustrating afternoon in terrible weather conditions but showed real character to come from two goals down and earn a deserved 2-2 draw against Paulsgrove Athletic.
The opening stages belonged to Paulsgrove, with Bridgemary struggling to settle into the game during the first 10 minutes. The hosts looked second best early on, unable to get control in midfield or build any real rhythm in possession. Despite the slow start, Bridgemary gradually improved as the half went on and managed to keep things level heading into the break at 0-0.
The second half brought more drama as Paulsgrove capitalised on their momentum to establish a 2-0 lead. At that stage Bridgemary looked in real danger, but the response from the side showed resilience and determination.
As the game opened up, Bridgemary finally began to play with more intensity and attacking purpose. The first goal gave them belief, and from there the momentum completely shifted. The equaliser arrived late on to complete the comeback and rescued a draw that had looked unlikely earlier in the match.
Bridgemary will also feel slightly unfortunate not to have taken home the win after seeing two further goals ruled out for offside. One of the decisions looked very tight and could easily have gone the other way, although overall a draw was probably a fair reflection of the contest.
Considering the difficult weather conditions and the way the game developed, Bridgemary can take positives from their fighting spirit and late reaction, while also knowing they will need to start quicker in future matches.
