Goole Women FC signed off their season in style with an impressive victory away at Skipton Ladies Development, overcoming significant adversity to deliver a memorable performance.

Travelling with a depleted squad, Goole were only able to field ten players and had no recognised goalkeeper available. Stepping up for the team, Emily Whitehead; who has not featured all season due to an ongoing knee injury put in a courageous shift between the sticks.

Having not played a competitive fixture for nearly a month, there could have been concerns about rustiness. Those fears were quickly put to bed. Inside five minutes, Ellie Sutton opened the scoring, setting the tone for what would become a dominant attacking display. Sutton went on to net an outstanding five goals on the day.

Top scorer Kirstie Nicholls was equally ruthless in front of goal, adding six to her season tally with a clinical performance. Jayne Bardauskas also got on the scoresheet, with the marauding right-back netting her first goal for the club since joining after the winter break.

Despite the challenges of a bobbly pitch and the first real heat of the year, Goole handled conditions well. Playing a player short for the entire match, the team showed resilience, quality, and togetherness to see out the game and secure a well-earned victory.

It was a fitting way to close the campaign, capping off a season full of progress and development. The squad should be immensely proud of their achievements, not only improving on last year, but continuing to grow and perform consistently throughout the season. From stepping up in key moments to reaching the latter stages of a cup competition, narrowly missing out on back-to-back final appearances, this group has laid strong foundations for the future.

Kirstie led the line brilliantly, delivering a clinical and hard-working performance that proved decisive in the final third. Finishing the game with two goals and one assist, she was a constant threat, always looking to get in behind and capitalise on every opportunity that came her way.

Her movement and positioning caused problems for the opposition throughout, while her composure in front of goal ensured she made her chances count. Beyond the goals, Kirstie’s link-up play and awareness brought others into the game, highlighted by her assist, a reflection of her all-round quality as a forward.

Goole Women FC secured an important three points on the road with a 3–1 victory against Leeds Hyde Park, in what was far from a vintage performance.

Difficult conditions played a major role throughout, with a bobbly, sloped and heavy pitch, combined with blustering, gale-force winds, making it a challenging game for both sides.

Despite this, Goole made a strong start and raced into a 2–0 lead through goals from Sambrook and Nicholls. However, the visitors dropped off slightly towards the end of the half, allowing Leeds Hyde Park back into the game with a goal just before the break to make it 2–1 at half-time.

Goole came out after the restart looking sharper on the ball and were rewarded almost immediately, extending their lead to 3–1, a goal that ultimately proved decisive.

The remainder of the game was a scrappy affair, with the conditions continuing to impact the flow and quality of play.

While it wasn’t a polished performance, the effort and commitment from the Goole squad could not be questioned. The heavy ground appeared to take its toll as the game wore on, but the visitors managed the contest well to see out the result.

Leeds Hyde Park deserve credit for their resilience, particularly at home where they have proven difficult to break down, and they once again showed their ability to stay competitive.

In the end, Goole will be satisfied with a hard-earned three points. It may not have been pretty, but it keeps the pressure firmly on the teams above as the season continues.

Millie Wolfenden proudly sponsored by J W Myers

Millie put in a dominant all-round performance, capping it off with a moment of real quality that will live long in the memory. Known for her strength and reliability at the back, she was once again a commanding presence, reading the game superbly, winning her battles, and bringing calmness to the defensive line.

But it was her contribution going forward that stole the headlines. Reacting quickly and showing outstanding technique, Millie struck a sensational half-volley, a true wonder strike that left everyone watching in awe. It was a moment that perfectly summed up her confidence and ability to step up when it matters most.

Combining defensive solidity with a touch of brilliance in front of goal, Millie delivered a complete performance and was a clear choice for Player of the Match.

Goole Women FC produced one of their most complete performances of the season, securing an impressive 3–1 victory away at an ever competitive Halifax side.

The visitors started on the front foot and took an early lead through a brilliant finish from Ogilby, setting the tone for what would be a dominant display. Goole controlled large periods of the first half, winning the midfield battle and showing real aggression in competing for second balls, ensuring they maintained pressure even when the initial duel wasn’t won.

Despite their control, Goole were denied what looked to be a stonewall penalty. Moments later, Halifax capitalised at the other end, producing a moment of quality to equalise on the stroke of half-time and send the sides into the break level at 1–1.

Goole responded perfectly after the restart, re-taking the lead almost immediately through a clinical finish from Nicholls. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Goole dictating play, limiting Halifax to very few opportunities, and continuing to impose themselves across the pitch.

The result was effectively sealed when towering centre back Wolfenden stepped up to deliver a moment of real quality, striking a superb half-volley into the top corner, a goal worthy of winning any game.

To their credit, Goole remained switched on throughout, fully aware of Halifax’s ability to get back into the contest. However, the visitors managed the game professionally and saw out the result comfortably.

This was undoubtedly one of Goole’s best all-round team performances of the season. From back to front, the squad demonstrated quality, cohesion, and a clear understanding of their roles, executing key elements worked on in training with confidence and conviction.

Katie delivered another commanding performance at the heart of the defence, showing exactly why she’s such a vital part of the team. From the first whistle she brought composure and organisation to the back line, reading the game brilliantly and stepping in to deal with danger before it could develop.

Her positioning and awareness were outstanding throughout, allowing her to break up attacks and keep the opposition at arm’s length. When called upon physically, Katie didn’t shy away either, putting in strong challenges and showing the determination needed to win key battles.

Just as importantly, her communication and leadership helped keep the defensive unit organised during important moments of the match. A calm, assured, and influential display at the back that fully deserved Player of the Match recognition.

Goole Women suffered a frustrating 3–1 defeat away at Harrogate Town U23s in a result that will feel harsh given the overall balance of play.

The hosts took the lead just ten minutes in, capitalising on an early opportunity to go 1–0 ahead. Goole responded in exactly the right manner, continuing to press and play on the front foot. Their efforts were rewarded five minutes later when Wolfenden found the equaliser, bringing the visitors deservedly back into the contest.

From that point, Goole grew into the game and, for large spells, looked the more threatening side. However, against the run of play, Harrogate regained the lead on the stroke of half-time, a blow that shifted the momentum heading into the break with the score at 2–1.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Goole applying pressure and creating enough chances to at least take a point from the fixture. Despite playing some positive football and showing attacking intent, the clinical edge proved decisive, and Harrogate added a third to seal the result.

Overall, Goole can feel disappointed not to have taken more from the game and perhaps even feel they had enough quality on the day to win it. With several players carrying injuries and others operating out of their natural positions, the squad showed resilience and commitment throughout.

On another day, with a bit more fortune in front of goal, the outcome could easily have been different. Attention now turns to the next opportunity to respond in what remains a competitive Division 3 campaign.
