Etherow Bowling Centre
The Etherow Indoor Bowling centre is situated in Broadbottom, next to the train station, during the Winter season which starts in October and finishes at the end of March we are open every weekday for casual bowling and league bowling sessions, we are looking for volunteers to help run these sessions, this involves taking payments using our simple computer system, also overseeing tea and coffee making sessions, we have a self service brew station. Have you recently retired or have a few hours to spare? We are a friendly bunch and in return for every session you cover you are entitled to a free bowling session. EIBC winter season
Our EIBC winter season starts soon

Fixtures are being finalised as soon as but first we are seeking a League team for

Monday evening Triples & Friday day time pairs

The AGM of both the Trust and our Bowling Club will take place on Sunday 20th September 2026 11am at the Bowling centre.

Dates for your diary

On that date you can renew your membership and locker hire and also collect your long Mat team fixtures. These should also be available on line mid September.

From Monday 28th Sept until Friday 2nd Oct the centre will be open for Long Mat practice

2hr sessions will be available bookable in advance with the office.

We would encourage long Mat team captains to collect their team fixtures and complete their team form this week.

We would also encourage all members to renew their membership and locker hire during this week if possible.

Long Mat Leagues 22 week season starts on Monday 5th October

(there will be a 2 week break over the Christmas/New year period)

Our Short Mat Club is open all year on Fridays from 4:30pm – approx. 9pm

We also have regular 2hr social bowling sessions available throughout the year. Please contact the office for availabily.

NHS / Macmillan Charity Fundraiser

Thank you to all our members who joined our recent fundraising event, sponsored by Gerry Thackery.

We are delighted to report that you raised £396 for the NHS and Macmillan charities.

It was a fantastic day and a great effort from everyone involved.

EIBC Spring 2026 Newsletter
As we move towards our summer season, I’d like to thank all our members for their support throughout the winter indoor bowling season. Furthermore, as we continue to improve the club’s facilities, we would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all our volunteers and trustees who generously give their time so that members can continue to enjoy their sport in a welcoming, inclusive and pleasant environment.

Congratulations to Our Teams

Please join us in congratulating our home-grown Short Mat teams on their excellent performances in the SMIBL league.

- The B Team, captained by Dave Quinn, finished top of Division 5.

- The A Team, captained by Paul Norbury, finished top of Division 4 and also won the Knockout Cup.

This is a fantastic achievement for the club and we are very proud of everyone involved.

Summer Season Dates: Friday 3 April – Sunday 27 September 2026

Centre Summer Opening Hours:

- Monday: 9:00 – 11:00

- Tuesday: 9:00 – 15:00 (2-hour slots) / Single’s League – Dates and Times TBA

- Wednesday: Closed

- Thursday: Closed

- Friday: Triples League – Dates and Times TBA / Short Mat Club – 16:30 – 21:00

For members who will not be continuing with indoor bowls throughout the summer season, we wish you an enjoyable outdoor bowling season and look forward to welcoming you back later in the year.

Winter Season 2026/2027

From Monday 28 September 2026 to Friday 2 October 2026 - between 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily - we will open in preparation for our winter season. During this period, we will be open for:

- Bookable practice sessions

- Membership renewals

- Team captains to collect league fixtures and team forms

Long Mat Triples – Saturday 14th March 2026

We are delighted to announce our upcoming Macmillan Cancer Support & NHS Charity Bowls Day, taking place on Saturday 14th March 2026.

This special Long Mat Triples event promises a fantastic day of competitive bowling, fundraising, and community spirit — all in support of two incredible causes.

🕘 Event Details

- Arrival: 9.45am

- Play begins: 10.00am

- Estimated finish: 3.00pm

- Entry Fee: £10 per player

🏆 Event Prizes

- Cash prizes for group winners

- Macmillan Engraved Trophy for the overall points-winning team

- NHS Engraved Trophy for the runners-up

There will also be a raffle with prizes drawn on the day, with tickets available to purchase in advance and on the day.

We look forward to welcoming all entered triple teams for what promises to be a rewarding and enjoyable day of bowling while raising funds for two very worthy charities.

Easter Raffle – Help Us Raise Funds for a New Mat
We’re pleased to announce our Easter Raffle, which will also be the final fundraising raffle of the winter season.

All funds raised will go towards the purchase of a new indoor long mat, helping to improve facilities for all our members.

Mat Fund Weekend – Thank You!
A Great Weekend with £528 Raised!

A huge thank you to all our members for your fantastic support during our Mat Fund Weekend at Etherow Indoor Bowling Centre.

Thanks to your generosity — including proceeds from the raffle — we raised an amazing £528 for the Mat Fund. Every contribution makes a real difference, and we’re incredibly grateful.

Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up across both days. The standard of play was excellent, and it was great to see so many close matches and smiling faces throughout the weekend.

A full list of raffle prize winners is available to view in the office.

Most importantly, it was a great weekend all round — plenty of good bowling, lots of laughs, and a wonderful atmosphere both on and off the green. Thank you once again to everyone who took part, helped out, or came along to support.

We couldn’t do this without you!

EIBC Mat Fund Event Weekend: 10th & 11th January
This weekend we will hold our Mat Fund Event. All proceeds will go towards purchasing a new mat for our Centre.

Registration for this event is now closed.

For members who have registered to join, please note:

Triples teams will be drawn each day.

Prizes will be awarded to winning teams and runners-up on both days.

The same format will apply on both days of the event.

The Centre will open at 8.30am on both days and bowling commences at 10am.

Please sign-in and pay (£10 to play) before 9.30am.

Tea, coffee and cordials will be available free of charge. Please bring own food for lunch / snacks.
