Stabyhoun UK

Stabyhoun UK The official page of the UK Stabyhoun Association - promoting and protecting this amazing family and gun dog in the UK.

Visit www.stabyhounuk.com for more details or email [email protected] to apply for a puppy. The Stabyhoun, or Stabij as we also call it, is a rare dog breed from the Netherlands. It shares many skills and behavioural characteristics with, for example, the Labrador, Golden Retriever, Spaniel and Duck Tolling Retriever in that it is active, intelligent, a good worker and most of all a loving and

loyal family dog. On this site you will find information about the breed, about how to go about getting a Stabyhoun puppy and the efforts that go into breeding and maintaining a healthy population of Stabyhouns. The role of the UK Stabyhoun Association is:

1. Promoting the Stabyhoun as an active family dog with good working and showing potential in the UK
2. Educating potential owners about the characteristics of the Stabyhoun
3. Identifying suitable homes for puppies and support all new owners of this wonderful, unique and sometimes challenging breed
4. Safeguarding the genetic integrity of the breed in the UK, and to assist in safeguarding the genetic integrity of the breed worldwide
5. Promoting responsible breeding and develop, with the assistance of established breeders and associations, our own breeding programme – always seeking to learn and understand more about successful breeding while educating our members about the keys to successful breeding
6. Advising Stabyhoun owners on all aspects of training and welfare
7. Organising workshops and training days that promote good dog ownership for all UK Stabyhoun owners

The Incredible Stabyhoun Coat: Beautiful, Functional, and Surprisingly Easy to Care For 🐾

One of the many things that makes the Stabyhoun so special is its stunning 'self cleaning' coat. With its silky, medium-length fur, elegant feathering on the legs and tail, and distinctive markings, the Stabyhoun is truly a beautiful breed.

But this coat isn't just for looks. Originally developed in the Netherlands as a versatile hunting and farm dog, the Stabyhoun's coat provides protection from rough terrain and varying weather conditions while remaining practical and relatively low-maintenance.

✨ Coat Care Tips:
• Brush thoroughly 1–2 times per week to remove loose hair and prevent tangles.
• Pay extra attention to feathering behind the ears, on the legs, and under the tail, where mats can form.
• Bathe only as needed—frequent bathing can strip the coat of its natural oils.
• Check ears regularly, especially after outdoor adventures and occasional pulling will keep them neat and tidy.
• During seasonal shedding periods, a little extra brushing helps keep the coat healthy and your home fur-free!

Unlike many long-coated breeds, the Stabyhoun's coat naturally resists dirt and the silky coat causes dirt to dry and drop out! This is one of the features new owners are often surprised by, whilst not a hypoallergenic coat it is very clean!

*PUPPY PLANS*

After a quiet few months, we have a number of litters planned for later this summer.

With such a rare breed, we still only have around 3 - 5 litters a year. Visit our website for details on when and where our approved litters are hoped to be born.

Whether they’re full siblings or half-siblings, mother and daughter, father and son, you often notice subtle threads running through them - a shared expression, a familiar response, the same thoughtful way they take in the world. But just as quickly, those similarities give way to very different personalities.

One bold, one cautious. One constantly checking in, the other happily leading the way. Same lineage, but each dog still very much their own character.

It’s one of the things that makes this breed so interesting to follow over generations - how consistent the type can be, while still producing such individual dogs.

Have you seen sibling or related Stabyhouns? Do yours share more similarities, or are they completely different in temperament?

Photographed are Aela and Djura - half siblings. So similar, yet so individual!

We’d love to see photos and hear your experiences 👇
