Thank you to everyone who supported our Open Show on Bank Holiday Monday held in Danby 😊

Report from DC Jenny Fowles....

"Both the games and the jumping saw some great competition and determined riding, with trophies and sashes for the winners. The Weather Gods replied rather belatedly to our rain requests sent a few weeks ago, and every now and again the sun disappeared and black clouds dumped a heavy shower on us, but then the sun would return and dry us out a bit🤣.

Thanks to our generous sponsors we have boosted funds by close to £1000 which is amazing! This is a real team effort and takes many people to run smoothly and successfully, so thank you all 👏especially Alison Wilson for running SJ, Rick Gillian Halton and Ellen Sayer the games, Fiona Atkinson taking entries, Gill Kidd, Gill H and Carl Louise Green the refreshments, and all of you who helped set up, pole picked and equipment moved, and packed everything away at the end of the day, we really couldn’t do it without you 💙❤️😊.

Regional Championship 2026 report!

"Our qualified members loved the chance to compete at the Regional Championships at Kelsall Hill equestrian centre - what an amazing place it is!

SHOW JUMPING
On Saturday it was the turn of the 70cm show jumpers, Elizabeth, Opal, Aoife and Pippa in the team and Zoey as an individual. Nerves kicked in a bit, and the first round caused us some problems, with Elizabeth our only clear.

By the second round everyone was more settled, all jumping much more confidently with Pippa having a pole and the others all clear. Elizabeth went on to the jump off just an unfortunate 4 faults keeping her out of the placings. In a massive class of 102 riders. The team finished 9th out 23, and Elizabeth 20th individually.

Sunday was 80cm SJ day, and our 3 man team of Sophia, Elizabeth and Nancy were in an even bigger class - 26 teams and 110 riders. Sophia and Elizabeth were clear in the first round and Nancy had a pole, then in the second round poles fell for both Elizabeth and Sophia whilst Nancy was clear but collected some time faults, leaving the team finishing 11th.

DRESSAGE
Meanwhile dressage divas Pippa and Gracie were strutting their stuff, again against strong competition, Gracie finishing 9th in her arena and Pippa 14th in hers.

EVENTING
Monday was eventing day, with Sophia and Pippa competing in the 70 class. Both did good dressage tests, and Sophia followed it up with a clear SJ whilst Pippa gathered some faults. Both were superb on the XC, coming home clear over a course that caused others some problems, and were rewarded with a fabulous 3rd place for Sophia and 6th for Pippa 🥳

Well done everyone, and thanks to Alison Wilson for being there for them on Sat, Becky Walker for being Alison’s stand in on Sun, and parents for helping each other out all weekend. We may not have come home weighed down with rosettes but you are all winners just to be there competing and I am as ever so very proud to be your DC. 💙❤️😊x

‘s Sophie attended the Pony Club national championships last week and represented the club in the open dressage competition on her horse Bee, completing a lovely test to come 9th in a very close and strongly contested class.

She also competed as part of an area 3 mixed team in the 90cm eventing on Foggy.

Foggy was a little excitable in the dressage, which Sophie managed to contain well, then had an unlucky pole show jumping to leave her lying over midway down the field overnight, before the cross country phase.

The cross country was a large technical course, which was proving a difficult challenge for a lot of combinations. Sophie managed a clear round jumping, just accumulating a few time penalties, but with the clear rounds few and far between it took her up to 11th place individually on the score board and helped the team to come a respectable 9th out of 40 teams!

Some of our younger members are competing at Kelsall Hill regional PC championships this weekend. 🤞 we have more good results to share in our next post!

Congratulations to ’s Sophie Marshall for passing the C+ test!!

A great day was had when 4 of our members and one from the Glaisdale PC undertook the C+ test.
With excellent results all round.... Charlie, Eve and Zara achieved the ridden section, Lottie achieved the horse care section and all four now hold their full C+. The visiting member from the Glaisdale PC, Sophie undertook both sections gaining the full C+.

Well done all of you a credit to the Hurworth and Glaisdale pony clubs.

🌟 SHOW JUMPING – from 10am
Classes for horses and ponies, with heights from 35cm up to 80cm, including lead rein/assisted classes and Topscore.

🏆 MOUNTED GAMES – from 10am
Bending Race and Mug Race classes for riders aged 8 & under, 12 & under and any age, plus special trophies and points throughout the day!

The annual event is held at The Show Ground on Hinderwell Lane, located between the village of Hinderwell and Runswick Bay, Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Months of preparation go into Pony Club camps across the country… and then, before you know it, it's all over! By Sunday evening, there were some very sleepy members (and a few adults too!) after an unforgettable Camp 2026.

Five days of ponies, friends, fun, laughter, badges & learning, sunshine, and memories that will last a lifetime – what more could you ask for?

🐴 Day 1 The first day got camp off to a flying start with games practice, building a show jumping course, and a brilliant session from Steph at , where members learnt all about feeds and even weighed their ponies.

🧽 Day 2 involved more riding, with different groups studying games, dressage, xc, and show jumping! Then came everyone's favourite job (or maybe not! 😆) – tack cleaning under the watchful eye of camp supervisor Bradley, before everyone cooled off with a trip to the local swimming pool while the ponies enjoyed a well-earned chill.

🎵 Day 3 kept everyone busy, with some members heading off on a hack on the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, others practising their musical ride, and others earning their Camping Badge by mastering tent pitching and learning all about camping safety. That night we all learnt a new skill (!) with some line dancing instruction 🤠

🌬️ Day 4 Newly learn't camping badge skills were needed quickly as day 4 started with an unexpected team challenge – rescuing the tents from their escape attempt in the wind! Thankfully, teamwork won the day, and everyone finished the evening dancing away at the silent disco.

🏅 Day 5 began with another fantastic breakfast courtesy of the Gills before the final preparations for our One Day Event and presentation. It was wonderful to welcome parents and friends to see everything the members had achieved throughout the week - and it was only then that the rain clouds made an appearance. A huge thank you to Equestrian and for the fantastic camp presentation goody bags – they were a huge hit and very much appreciated by everyone at .

Of course, camp simply wouldn't happen without the incredible team behind the scenes. Thank you to every instructor, volunteer, parent and helper who gave up their time, shared their knowledge, kept everyone fed, watered, entertained, organised and smiling. Your hard work made another amazing camp possible.

Glaisdale District Commissioner, Jenny Fowles, who shared these heartfelt words after her final camp as DC:

"Camp 2026 was my last as a DC, and it was a great one to finish on. ❤️💙

Thank you to everyone involved – instructors Beth Hodges, Harriet Beecroft, Hannah Foster, Amanda Holdsworth and, of course, Alison Wilson; our wonderful camp caterers Gill Kidd and Gillian Halton; helpers Grace Brown, Poppy Young and Harriet A; evening entertainment and hacking Ellen Sayer; hacking refreshment stop Becky Walker; badge instructor Fiona Atkinson; dressage judges Sue and Kim, with Kathryn Marie calling; XC fence fixers Kathryn and Sam Mortimer; XC fence loaners Ben and Iona Garstang; parents for helping out here, there and everywhere; the members and ponies for being well behaved and fun and not keeping me awake all night 🤪...

The biggest thank you has to go to Alison and Peter Wilson for welcoming us all to their home. Pete worked tirelessly behind the scenes, from overseeing stable arrivals and refilling the water bowser to supervising road crossings, rescuing tents from the wind and countless other jobs that kept camp running smoothly. And of course, Bradley, who travelled miles every day keeping an eye on camp – especially the Gills! 😂

Thank you, everyone, for making my final camp so special. And apologies if I've missed anyone… it wouldn't be me if I didn't! ❤️💙😊"

Back in February, Pippa was our sole dressage competitor at the Spring Area Qualifier — and we put out the call: "If you are interested in having a go at PC dressage, please get in touch. We are sure Pippa would love some teammates for the next Area Qualifier!"

Well, our club answered that call. Children and ponies (including many who had never done dressage before!) came together to train with local dressage diva Beth Hodges, and we were beyond proud to put forward our first ever PC70 junior team for the Area 3 Dressage Qualifier. Another first for our club! 🙌

Huge congratulations to our final four juniors who represented Glaisdale: Pippa, Gracie, Harriet A and Alice.

While the team didn't qualify on this first attempt, we're thrilled that Pippa qualified for champs individually! Congratulations!!

And in the Open, senior member Sophie Marshall danced away with the elegant Bee to WIN the Open class for Glaisdale, taking her through to the Championships. What a beautiful test to watch! 🏆
