546 Old Skool Superstox Racing

Last meeting of 2025 for Old Skool Superstox and 546 at Ipswich.
Heat 1 - Race was dry 546 going well but had oversteer coming out of the turns, finished 5th behind a pacy 482 with 80 taking the win with 443 and 235 close behind in 2nd and 3rd.
Heat 2 - To overcome the oversteer some near slick tyres put on inside front and outside rear. However on exiting pits to go on track the heavens opened. Understeered on every turn, kept it out of incidents but finished well down the field. Well deserved win for 81.
Final - Going against chief mechanic Uncle Jimi’s advice the cut Hoosiers for shale put on all 4 corners. Although the rain had stopped the track was still wet, car was a completely different feel. Handling very well the best it has ever handled in the wet. To top it off I took the chequered flag with 235 and 42 finishing 2nd and 3rd. Great finish to a trouble free season of racing. Saturday 9th August a sunny meeting at Northampton.
546 handled well yet again on the cut Hoosiers, 5th in heat 1 and good 3rd chasing down world champion Steve Monk in heat 2.
Looking good for a top 3 finish in the final but due to heavy watering of the track before the final it made it difficult to pass, this meant for a few spins for other cars, unfortunately 80 span in front of me ending any chance of a good finish.

Northampton Shaleway Sunday 13th July a very hot and sunny day.

Great performance from team 546, 1st outing with the cut hoosiers, heat 1 was tricky as there was only 1 dry line following heavy watering.

Heat 2 allowed some great racing as no track watering before with 546 taking the win on the line from 54.

This meant starting the final from the back. Car was spot on and with no driver errors it made it all the way to 2nd. Thanks for all the support as always 😎

Taunton weekend racing at Smeartharpe raceway. June 7th and 8th 2025.

All drivers and team members had a great time.

Chris’s idea of a different winner for each of the 6 races over the 2 days lead to some great on track racing.

Green Dragon pub for the night was also very nice and welcoming for team 298 and team 546.

546’s 1st meeting of 2025 went well
Best result was a 3rd in heat 2
Car going very well in 1st 2 heats, dodging a sideways 298 in heat 1. Heat 2 progressed well through the pack, catching 22 and 66 but ran out of laps. Final was wet so took it easy to take car home with no damage.
Thanks to Jimi as always along with our new scrutineer Anna. Thanks also from Dad for coming to cheer us on.

Hednesford take 2 - 19th May
Nice blue mark on the wall from take 1, no wall issues this time 🤗
Pretty happy with how the car handled, race 2 after a swap round of tyres the back end was very twitchy. A move round of tyres again for the final putting a slicker one on the front outside with a grippier one on outside rear made a big difference and enough to sneak a 3rd in the final behind a fast 482 and 443.🏁

Mildenhall Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April
To get 546 to the track alone was an achievement following the damaged suffered at Hednesford.
Only possible due to a big helping hand from Jimi and Chris.

Car performed better than expected with a few changes throughout the 2 days mainly popping hoosiers on outside rear and inside front following a puncture and cracked wheel rim forcing the changes.

All well worth it as I achieved a 3rd place in the final on Sunday grabbing the position on the very last bend on the last lap, going round the outside of 298.

I think that move earned me the drivers driver of the day for the Sunday

An eventful 1st race of the season for team 546.

Race 1 car running very good with a 2nd placed finish.

Race 2, quick top up of fuel, check tyres and out again another good race with another 2nd place

Final, started well but after lap 2 going into turn 1 throttle stuck open sending me straight into the wall, not how I expected my day to finish being towed off on the breakdown truck.

Thanks to Uncle Jimi and Dad for their support getting there and in the pits, also to Paul Wales for making sure my shoes were dry 🤗.

1 positive we picked a pond liner up on the way and it made it back safely strapped to the roof of 546.

Reasonable damage to the car but hopefully be back together for Mildenhall in 3 weeks time.
