DICK, KERR LADIES WALKING FOOTBALL CUP - SUNDAY SUCCESS

🏆 Shield Winners - Garstang Lionesses Over 40s
🎯 Joint Leading Goalscorer - Alison Taberner (Garstang Lioness over 40)
🤝 Brenda Eastwood Award for Most Sporting Team - Joint Winners, Garstang Lionesses, Over 40s AND Over 50s!
🎖️ First Female to ref a Dick, Kerr Final - Jan

What a great vibe today at the best female walking football tournament, organised by Team Lancashire, just down the road at the University of Lancashire (ULan) ... the Dick, Kerr Ladies teams from 1917-1965 would've been proud of their legacy and the spirit every single one of the 24 teams played in.

Both our 40s and 50s exited the Cup after the group stage but went on to the Shield knockout where as luck would have it, met in the next round! The 40s came out on top and deservedly, went all the way to win it in style 👏

As a club, we were made up to win the Most Sporting Award, voted by each opponent after each game. Both teams finished joint top!

Jan and Steph, two of our four FA Qualified Referees, reffed throughout the day with Jan getting one of the Cup Finals, the first female to do so 👏

Gail Newsham, the leading expert on the Dick, Kerr Ladies, began the awards presented by Freda Garth (a former Dick, Kerr Captain 1959-65) with some thoughts of today and what it would've meant to those trailblazers.

The winner today though was every women's walking footballer. What a great advert for the game.

The rain stayed away and there was some great football played. ❤️⚽️👏🏼
