A great start to the 2026 campaign for Gaerse Dun as they win their first game in Division 8.
Winning the toss on a sunny day at Denton Lane, Armstrong and Lee-Paskin set to work on laying the foundations. With extras also significantly contributing, they both batted long and past the first drinks break.
Armstrong sent himself over the half-century mark with a 4, before being dismissed in bizarre fashion - quite simply an exact replica of Bairstow in the Ashes.
Lee-Paskin followed the next over caught, and Kumar 3 balls later LBW.
3 overs later Wakefield fell, leaving one that went on to hit the top of off, and you could be forgiven for thinking you’d seen this one before. However, a mixture of contributions from Matt Edwards, Dan Holness, Josh Swadling and the chancellor of the exchequer, Peter Cole, ensured Gaerse Dun set a great total on a wicket that was starting to crumble.
After a beautiful Brooks tea, Gaerse Dun waited until the fourth over to strike. They then witnessed approximately 8 edges not fall their way, and dropped 2 catches, meaning they didn’t take another wicket until the 15th. Holness struck, taking the danger man, and struck again 2 balls later LBW.
A Khan then went to work, taking a wicket in every one of his overs bar one to win the match for Gaerse. Dedicating his 7-fer to the late Russell McSweeney, Khan lead the team off as MOTM.
