Gaerse look to make it a perfect May as they welcome Chinnor 2’s to Denton Road.

James Cole makes his debut and returns after some years out of the game. A Risinghurst stalwart, he continuously opened the bowling for the side for some time. He replaces the bowling of Asif Khan, whilst Ricky Armstrong comes back in place of Connor Wakefield.

Gaerse Dun win their 4th game out of 4 with a convincing win over Steventon on Saturday.

In the scorching heat, skipper Swadling won the toss and elected to bat on what is probably the best wicket we’ve seen in some time.

However, despite a first ball 4, the skipper saw his bails go flying a ball later. 2 overs later, JLP was caught by a good one handed catch at square leg.

With P Cole and C Wakefield at the crease, Gaerse slowly rebuilt from 14-2. By the first drinks break they’d reached 60, and from there continued to rotate the strike with ones and twos. They crossed over the 100 run mark in the 25th over, and as Wakefield ticked over to 50, they looked well set. Come second drinks the decision was made to push on, and unfortunately Cole fell for 43 with the score at 135-3. Raj Kumar joined but soon departed, which brought J Sammuller to the crease.

Wakefield, by this stage dead on his feet, was perfectly content to rotate the strike, facing only 9 balls in the last 7 overs as he had the best seat in the house to watch Justin’s destruction. Initially 9 (9), Justin then went on to smash 42 in 13 balls before falling two balls from the end of the innings. Gaerse added a further 1 to bring their score to 225.

In reply, Steventon got off to a slow start and indeed only achieved 11 off their first 10 overs. With a loss now seeming unlikely, it was a matter of how quickly Gaerse could get back to the bar. A stubborn Steventon put up a fight but fell in the 30th over to a 152 run defeat.

Gaerse Dun win convincingly against Steventon.

Losing two early wickets, Peter Cole (43 from 91) and Connor Wakefield (78 from 102) rebuilt, with a sensational 51 from 24 from Justin Sammuller giving the Garsy boys a first innings total of 225 from their 40.

Steventon dug in for some time, but Peter Cole took 3, as did Joel Barwise, as Garsy saw Steventon off for 71.

A great start to the 2026 campaign for Gaerse Dun as they win their first game in Division 8.

Winning the toss on a sunny day at Denton Lane, Armstrong and Lee-Paskin set to work on laying the foundations. With extras also significantly contributing, they both batted long and past the first drinks break.

Armstrong sent himself over the half-century mark with a 4, before being dismissed in bizarre fashion - quite simply an exact replica of Bairstow in the Ashes.

Lee-Paskin followed the next over caught, and Kumar 3 balls later LBW.

3 overs later Wakefield fell, leaving one that went on to hit the top of off, and you could be forgiven for thinking you’d seen this one before. However, a mixture of contributions from Matt Edwards, Dan Holness, Josh Swadling and the chancellor of the exchequer, Peter Cole, ensured Gaerse Dun set a great total on a wicket that was starting to crumble.

After a beautiful Brooks tea, Gaerse Dun waited until the fourth over to strike. They then witnessed approximately 8 edges not fall their way, and dropped 2 catches, meaning they didn’t take another wicket until the 15th. Holness struck, taking the danger man, and struck again 2 balls later LBW.

A Khan then went to work, taking a wicket in every one of his overs bar one to win the match for Gaerse. Dedicating his 7-fer to the late Russell McSweeney, Khan lead the team off as MOTM.

Cricket is so back - and so are Gaerse Dun.

Full report to come, but a big win to start the year.

The teams also conducted a minutes silence in memory of former teammate and good friend to many, Russel McSweeney, who sadly passed away recently. Thank you to Wolvercote for partaking.

Big congratulations to the Football side! Hopefully another promotion coming soon…

Fantastic news to update, our Men’s team are confirmed as league champions and will be promoted next season.

Huge congratulations to the management team of Jacob, Daisy and Lewis and, of course , all the players who’ve pulled on the Garsington FC over the season.

Special thanks again to Scott at Executive Alarms, who’ve been the Clubs man sponsor for years now, and not forgetting our main groundsman Ian , who does such a sterling job on the pitches.

We’re lucky to have you all on board, so special thanks from myself, President Puffer and the main committee.

Keep an eye out for the football presentation evening date and of course our in house sports presentation evening coming up too, two cracking celebratory evenings to look forward to.

Gaerse Dun C.C. can confirm this seasons fixture list.

The year starts off with two pre season games, before the green machine make their first Div 8 appearance at home to Wolvercote on the 9th May.

The first cup fixture of the year is a preliminary round, and will decide whether we play in the Osberton Radiators or Keith Crump memorial - so there will be a minimum of two cup games this year.

We have also put together a busy T20 and friendly schedule, with lots of games to keep players ticking over through the summer.

We will see the return of the Memorial Game on the 12th July (providing no clashes with existing bookings) with details to follow - this was a real success for us last year so we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone down again.

We are also excited to announce the inaugural ‘Garsington Publympics’. Teams will compete in a range of games including Cricket, Darts, Pool & Aunt Sally amongst other things.

We will also be rounding out the year with a friendly against Weybridge Vandals who will be touring Oxford for their own end of season activities and to join us for our end of season BBQ.

We will also be hiring out the ground to long-time friends ACME, with their Sunday fixtures highlighted in yellow.
