GFR Ams 0 Swifts AFC 1 ⚽️
Match Report 🗒️
A sunny day at the San Siro on Saturday we looked forward to our Scottish Cup game against the Swifts knowing it would be a tough test.
The first half was us getting a lot of possession and our opponents sitting back in their well organised formation stopping any attempt from us to create chances.
It was the same for most of the half whenever we attacked their back four stopped any shot attempts happening and we couldn’t keep the ball high up the pitch for long enough.
The Swifts had some counter attacks and a few corners but not much action for both supporters to enjoy in the first half.
HT 0-0.
Second half we changed our formation and hoped with bringing some fresh legs on it would bring some life into this cup tie.
But both teams were well matched and finding the space to attack and find a goal was proving difficult for both teams.
Lewis Swaney and Addison Bell’s movement was opening up some space but it was the final ball that was painstakingly misplaced when the opportunity was there to get into the penalty area.
The Swifts now had their second wind and they had more of the ball and drove at the heart of our defence, Thomas Chandler and Allan Marr stood strong for now and Mikey Sanderson in goal stopped any shots from getting them the first goal.
Not much time left and the Swifts attacked our penalty area they dribbled and we made an attempt to tackle their player, the ref looked at it and blew his whistle and pointed to the penalty spot.
A very frustrating decision for our players at this stage in the game to see happening so we all hoped Mikey could save the penalty.
They placed it into the corner and Mikey got his fingertips to it but the power of the shot was enough to get the goal.
Not the way we wanted the game to be decided and with our opponents celebrating loudly with relief they knew it wasn’t a well deserved win but one they would enjoy with sneaking a win.
FT 0-1.
All the best to The Swifts on their Scottish Cup journey and thanks for coming back to the The Salmon Inn Pub after the game 🤝
Next we have a free week so hopefully we can get some injuries out of the way and look forward to our next game against Duns FC.
