Full Time | Sutherland WFC 5–0 Fort William WFC
A tough afternoon in Golspie yesterday, but a big shift from the Fort William squad in challenging, humid conditions 💛
It was backs-to-the-wall early on, with the team showing real grit and determination to keep Sutherland at bay. Joanne Gillanders set the tone with a huge early clearance, while Sarah Riddle put her body on the line with a brilliant block in the box.
Between the sticks, Erin Cameron was outstanding throughout, pulling off a string of excellent saves to keep the score down and give the team a platform to build from 🔥
Despite an early injury and a few enforced changes, the squad dug in well. We started to grow into the game as the half went on, with our midfield and forwards testing the Sutherland defence and showing real attacking intent.
The second half saw more of the same commitment with our midfield, in particular Colette D’Ambrosio and Teri Fox supporting the forwards and creating opportunities. Sutherland showed their clinical edge to add to their tally, but the scoreline doesn’t reflect the effort and spirit shown by this Fort William side.
💪 Huge credit to most players for sticking together and battling right to the final whistle – exactly the attitude we want to see.
Plenty of positives to take into our next match against Orkney (date TBC) 💛
We thank Sutherland for a competitive match and excellent post-match hospitality.

Fort William 2–2 Sutherland

Plenty of positives for Fort William despite a 2–2 draw in the Highland League Cup. The hosts produced a strong performance, created the better chances across the game, and were twice ahead through goals from Holli Salmond and Maddison MacMillan.

Fort William played with great organisation, energy and attacking intent throughout, but were denied on several occasions by an excellent display from Sutherland goalkeeper Franci Hutchison.

Although Sutherland came back twice from set-pieces and edged through the group on goal difference, there was lots to encourage Fort William as the squad continues to make real progress.

We thank Sutherland Women’s Football Club for a highly competitive match. We face them again next Sunday in Golspie in the league.
