Sunday Soccer Club

Sunday Soccer Club Sessions have been running for over 20 years with them originating in Findhorn but now running in Forres.

The group is made up of friendly people who attend from all over Moray. Sessions are participation focused with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

A huge congratulations to Gregor Hamilton on being named player of the match today. Gregor played the defensive midfielder (attacking defender) position and didn't really put a foot wrong throughout the game. Gregor never seems to stop running and puts his body on the line as and when required. Having played the full 90 minutes it wouldn't surprise us if he could play another full game. Gregor also isn't scared to make friends with the referee and had a few constructive conversations today. Gregor is the definition of a warrior and always gives his all for the team. You genuinely couldn't meet a nicer person and we are so grateful to have Gregor in our team.

A big thank you to Jamie Alexander for kindly providing the medal and to Mind Hop Brewery for generously supplying a can of their delicious alcohol free lager.

Sunday Soccer Club were back in action today against Moray Police Football Club in another competitive fixture. Both teams started brightly, with possession changing hands regularly in an entertaining opening. We settled well into the game and took the lead with a well worked team goal. We were unfortunate not to extend our advantage, with a great save from the goalkeeper and the crossbar denying us a second. The opposition then found an equaliser with an excellent ball over the top, allowing their striker to round our goalkeeper and calmly slot the ball home. The score remained level for the rest of the first half. We came out for the second half with renewed energy and created a number of opportunities, although we struggled to find that final touch in front of goal. Eventually, our pressure paid off as a fantastic breakaway move resulted in us regaining the lead. With the opposition beginning to tire, it looked as though we might go on to secure the win. However, football can be a cruel game. A misplaced kick from our goalkeeper gifted the opposition with possession and the resulting shot was adjudged to have struck a defender's hand. The penalty was converted, bringing the scores level once again. Despite the disappointment, the squad remained disciplined, focused and committed right through to the final whistle. On another day, those chances could easily have seen us come away with the win, but we will take plenty of positives from the performance.

A big thank you to everyone at Moray Police Football Club for a competitive, enjoyable and respectful game. You kept going despite only having one substitute. We wish you all the very best in your upcoming fixtures.

A special mention must also go to everyone at Burghead Thistle F.C. As always, you were incredibly friendly and welcoming with fantastic facilities available for the game. Not only do you kindly host our games, but you also provide amazing refreshments. We are very lucky to have such a supportive football club in our local area. Your generosity, kindness and continued support are very much appreciated.

Huge congratulations to Simon Pindar on being selected as captain for the game today. Simon is a fantastic player to have in the team, consistently showcasing an impressive level of effort, determination and skill. No matter where he plays on the pitch, you can always count on Simon to give 100% and put everything into the game. He is a constant threat to the opposition, making him a very difficult player to leave out of the starting lineup or take off during a game. His commitment, enthusiasm and never give up attitude are exactly what you want in a teammate. It is easy to see why Simon was the ideal candidate to captain the team today.

Sunday Soccer Club are pleased to announce that the following players have been selected to play in the upcoming game against Moray Police Football Club.

Kickoff will be at approximately 13:00 this Sunday. The game will be played at Forest Park which is the home of Burghead Thistle F.C. Spectators are very welcome to attend and entry is free.

It was fantastic to see so many players at the session this morning. We are delighted to welcome new faces every week with even more people showing an interest in getting involved. The club continues to grow and it is great to see the enthusiasm building.

We have also got a few games being lined up over the coming months so keep an eye on our page for fixture announcements and updates.
