gether and very much changed the path we were on in our lives. We want our clients to find the fun in fitness, to challenge themselves and what they’re capable of. Got my dose of daily movement in with an early home yoga session, followed by parkrun and then straight into the pool for some lengths. Flying solo today- no kids and no Raymond so off for a bit of treat day for myself, lunch and shopping… because I’m worth it. 😆 happy Saturday all! What’s your weekend looking like?

I don’t know about you but my feed seems to be bombarding me with fat loss tips, from reels on recipes for pizza and cake alternatives, to advice on only doing zone 2 cardio to support fat loss, to endless videos on strength training to maximise your fat loss… whilst we will always support you with the goals that matter to you, there is more to your health, wellbeing and happiness than obsessively chasing the singular goal of fat loss.
-You can eat for health, and for pleasure- making memories with your loved ones and nourishing your body whilst fueling it well.
-Enjoy all sorts of cardio for heart health, the thrill of seeing what your body can do and the enjoyment of movement, hitting that endorphin high, and having adventures along the way too!
-We can strength train because we feel badass doing it, it supports our bone health, helps us build muscle and promotes independence as we age. It feels bloody awesome to get stronger and feel more powerful in the body you live in!

And that’s before we really even get started on all the mental health benefits of exercise and living well. Trust me, focusing purely on fat loss can become a miserable obsession that has you losing sight of the fun in the journey, in the process… and chances are, doing all of the above will see you scoring fat loss anyway, whilst actually feeling good and energised too. Whatever your goals, we’ve got your back. If you’re ready to start feeling good for what your body can do, to get strong and make changes that leave you feeling empowered, rather than miserable then pop us a message. We’d love to be part of that journey!

Another Monday has rolled around and as always I like to take time to reflect and to set intentions for the week ahead. It’s wild that we are pretty much halfway through the year already and that sparked some thoughts for me. Time will move whether you do or not. I don’t want to get to the end of a year wishing I’d have done the things I wanted to do. Getting started today, however small will spark that momentum and move you towards your goals. Don’t just let the days pass by in one monotonous blur, do the thing, try something new, set challenges, get out that comfort zone and you’ll start to feel more alive! That’s my Monday ramblings done. What intentions are you setting this week?

All week I’ve been groaning at the beep of my alarm, in need of more sleep. Last night I decided to not set an alarm, if I woke early it would mean a parkrun visit was meant to be… and a 6am wake up made up my mind. Ran there and back too to top up the miles. Raymond stayed in bed as I left. Earphones on, podcast playing and enjoyed a little plod. Running feels much slower now and harder but my focus this year has been different, so I’m being kind to myself and just grateful to move. Lovely to see lots of familiar faces and also plenty of new graduates from the most recent couch to 5k programme I’ve supported. Always makes me really happy to see past participants. Have to say a big thank you to Nina for the sunglasses, first little try out today and they are lush! It’s a beautiful day out there! Came back to a spotless home and a bath ready for me thanks to Raymond. Pretty much a perfect morning so far.

I’ve been putting together some work around self-limiting beliefs for a programme I’m running for The Positive Movement Project and thought it worth sharing some of my thoughts here too as it totally impacts how we show up for ourselves.
The beliefs we hold about ourselves shape how we show up in the world, the way we act and how we behave. If we believe we’re not capable, not fit enough, too old or likely to fail, we’ll often act in ways that support those beliefs. Then the results we get prove we were right all along which reinforces these beliefs and so the cycle continues.
I find the brain fascinating. It’s constantly looking for evidence to support what we already believe to be true, it’ll actively seek out proof of this. If we repeatedly tell ourselves “I’m not the sort of person who can do that,” our brain starts filtering the world through that lens. Think about the days you feel like the world is against you- you spill the milk in the morning, end up stuck in traffic, late for work… it’s not that these things wouldn’t happen if we had a more positive outlook, but our brain wouldn’t be latching onto them screaming, ‘See! You were right!’. With these self-limiting beliefs, we notice and store the setbacks and overlook the successes, reinforcing what we believe to be true. We start to think, ‘why bother?’ and we stop taking chances, we stay firmly in our comfort zones. And we get stuck…
But it works both ways. This isn’t about toxic positivity or pretending everything is possible- but if we understand that our beliefs are feeding into our outcomes then we may just have a chance of change. If we start to believe we might be capable, we become more likely to take the small steps and persist when things get difficult. Our brain starts noticing evidence that supports this new belief, and gradually that belief becomes our reality through the choices we make.
The story you’ve been telling yourself isn’t set in stone. You can change the outcome. If you’re feeling fed up of being stuck in that cycle, try to break it! Challenge those negative beliefs that are holding you back, actively seek out evidence to show you’re capable. Because you are!
