Little bit of progress today getting the 603 Autosport DS24 dash in and running.

Few tweaks to make here and there with my surround making skills - but hey, it at least looks a bit like a race car now! (The incomplete display isn’t anything wrong with the dash - just the way the camera captures the LED’s!)

All the gear and no idea.... or in this case, none of the gears and none of the ideas! 😂 After a week or so of feeling a bit lost with this - made the short (didn’t underestimate Edinburgh -> Darlington at all, honest) trip to see Jamie from to pick up a replacement standard box. Is it a long term solution? Probabaly not. But it should at least get the thing back mobile again - if I’m really lucky, my will have survived and I’ll be able to swap that over. Suspect I’m not that lucky though!

A day of highs and lows I guess.... today was mapping day with Dave up at SOS in Falkirk.

Car made 188bhp which is maybe a smidge down on where I’d hoped it would be - however, as I’ve said all along - the numbers aren’t what’s important to me in all this, having a well mapped, drivable car running the way it should was what I was after - and the mapping really did transform the way it ran. Crisp and clean revving.

Unfortunately however.... that joy was short lived. Two second gear rolling start pulls were all that it took for the gearbox to decide it didn’t want to be part of this deal any more.

Have always known that the box was going to be the weak point on this car - however, I don’t think this is the typical way they fail which kinda points to a problem which was already there in the box.

Time to reassess unfortunately - it’s the kinda thing you really need to sleep on before making any bold claims, but at the moment I’m inclined to tuck it away in the garage and let the dust gather some more.

Let’s talk fake parts....

Long story short, having got the car up and running on the Megane injectors last week, after a few chats with Wayne from Chipwizards, I learned a few things about the spray pattern of them which makes them less than ideal for the inlet I’m using. With mapping now less than a week away, cue a bit of a panic about getting a different set.

Sourced a set on eBay and pulled the trigger. £143 quid. Not massively unreasonable. However there was a part of me that just didn’t feel comfortable so contacted the seller asking them to verify that these were in fact genuine original parts. The reply I got?

‘you will get exaclty what you see on the photo - i just double checked and unfortunately they don't have any boxes - is that ok ?’

Alarm bells. No thanks. Clearly non genuine rip off parts. So asked for order to be cancelled and they gladly obliged.

Then went on to source a replacement set from a company called Spareto. They are based in Estonia but I was somewhat short of options.

Messaged them and got a reply straight away confirming they were genuine.

£75 delivered to my door. This was on Wednesday and they claimed I’d have them by Friday.

It all seemed too good to be true - but low and behold, look what arrived this morning 48 hours after ordering and at just about half the price of the fakes.

Complete with boxes, genuine Bosch seals and codes which all confirm as genuine.

Is not always as it seems.

Would urge folk to be extra careful when buying let’s like this on eBay.

Some giant leaps forward this week with Billy Denholm at CAS, following almost a complete revision of the fuel system making it both reg compliant, and MUCH safer and improved on what was there already - the car is back up and running again!

Still needs an exhaust, mapped and completely built back up - but firing it up today it’s like night and day compared to how it used to start / run.

- bigger injectors in
- correct spark plugs in
- fuel cell modified and container 90% complete
- fuel filter and dry break sample point fitted and all lines renewed.

A wee Saturday morning throwback to kickstart the weekend! 5 years ago today we loaded the first Traxo on to the trailer for its first outing at following a monstrous 33 hour shift in the garage with at to get it finished. Wee car went through some changes in the years that followed and put in literally hundreds of laps, without ever really missing a beat. This wee car will always have a very special place in my heart for sure. The new car is going to have a lot to live up to!
