A&D League Reports - 19th May 2026
Well, although it wasn’t the overall result we’d have liked, there is certainly cause for optimism after Pyestock A’s Division Two match away to Farnborough B last evening.
Our first rink, of Stewart Adams, David Killington, Phil Cain and Keith Nash, contested a game that was evenly-matched in the early stages, but a four and a five on ends seven and eight, respectively, helped us to a 16-5 shots lead after twelve ends. A fightback from our opponents left a nail-biting finish, with the score at 17-15 shots in our favour with one end to play.
Our nerve held, however, and we finished the game 18-15 winners.
Our next rink, of Martin Squibb, Richard Thorpe, Roger Broadley and Keith Northwood, took an early 7-3 shots lead with a five on the fourth end, and never really looked back. Although the remaining ends were evenly split, our opponents were never allowed to score more than one shot on the ends that they won, and we finished with an emphatic 22-10 shots win.
Our final rink, of John Galsworthy, Eddy Clark, Linda Lacey and Val Goodman, experienced one of those games that may be considered a real anomaly.
We’re all aware of how good these players are, and they all performed as well as we’d expect them to, but nothing went right for us on this evening, and we were defeated by 8-29 shots.
The final score was Pyestock A (48 shots) 2-3 (54 shots) Farnborough B.
If this team plays as well for the rest of the season, we shall win many more than we lose.
It was another very successful evening for Pyestock B, at home to Cove C.
Our first rink, of Keith Allaway, Paul Allen, Rob Goddard and John Vincent, took a 3-2 shots lead on end number four and, even though the scoreline remained very close throughout, we ended the game winning by 17-16 shots.
Our next rink, of Keith Vizard, Sue Crofts, Tony Wright and Andy Free, contested another close game, and led by 9-5 shots after eleven ends.
Sadly, the opposition went on to win six of the seven remaining ends, resulting in an 11-14 shots defeat for us.
Our final rink, of Don McDarmaid, John New, Paul Luker and Richard Oxford, started with a bang, and led by 11-1 shots after five ends. Our lead at the halfway point was 13-5 shots, and the opposition rarely threatened during the remainder of the game, Pyestock winning in the end by 20-13 shots.
The final score was Pyestock B (48 shots) 4-1 (43 shots) Cove C.
Pyestock B now heads the Division Three League table.
