I think today reminded Miss Ava of something she sometimes forgets when the lists get long, the emails pile up and the pressure of running a dance studio feels like a lotā¦
This is the bit that matters.
Today, our young people gave up an entire day to come into DanSci and help us create props and staging for our showcase.
They didnāt have to. They wanted to.
They turned up, got stuck in, challenged themselves, figured things out, helped each other, made things, moved things, laughed A LOT and somehow managed to create some things that might actually be useable! š
But more than what they made, it was who they were while they were making it that made me proud.
Resourceful.
Talented.
Dedicated.
Caring.
Funny.
Kind.
Completely willing to have a go.
And watching them work together today, I had one of those little moments where you stand back and thinkā¦
āYep. This is why.ā
DanSci has always been about so much more than dance for me.
Itās about creating a place where people can belong. Where they can try, fail, laugh, learn, lead, create and discover what theyāre capable of.
Itās about the people.
And today I was reminded just how incredibly lucky I am to have our people.
It was a long day. There were plenty of laughs, a fair amount of chaos and probably several moments where we questioned our life choicesā¦
And despite all the building, lifting, carrying, climbing and general DanSci madnessā¦
WE DIDNāT EVEN NEED TO USE OUR FIRST AID SKILLS ONCE! š
Tonight Iām tired, but Iām also incredibly grateful.
Grateful for the young people who give their time and energy to this place.
Grateful for the friendships and relationships that have grown here.
Grateful that somewhere along the way, this little dance studio became so much more than a business.
It became a home.
Life really is too short to spend it constantly worrying about the things that donāt matter.
Give me days like today.
Messy.
Creative.
Loud.
Full of laughter.
Surrounded by brilliant humans.
Those are the days that feed your soul.
And tonight, mine is very definitely soul-fed.
Thank you, guys. Iām so ridiculously proud of you.
