Working on upper strength as that's where Carys feels she is lacking.

Also focusing on not being hunched and tense in other muscles (traps etc.) that should be relaxed during certain exercises.

Her numbers are going up every week. Form and confidence to perform exercises is improving.

🌈 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 🌈

How can physical activity help my mental health?

There are many studies which have shown that doing physical activity can improve mental health. For example, it can help with:

Better sleep – by making you feel more tired at the end of the day

Happier moods – physical activity releases feel-good hormones that make you feel better in yourself and give you more energy

Managing stress, anxiety or intrusive and racing thoughts – doing something physical releases cortisol which helps us manage stress.

better self-esteem – being more active can make you feel better about yourself as you improve and meet your goals

Reducing the risk of depression – studies have shown that doing regular physical activity can reduce the likelihood of experiencing a period of depression

Connecting with people – doing group or team activities can help you meet new and like-minded people, and make new friends.

Exercise can't cure certain mental health issues but it can help to improve your mood and give you something to focus on.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱.

People always ask me how I stay motivated and honestly it's because I really enjoy the training I do.

There are definitely some days where I can't be arsed but I remind myself that it's going to make me feel so good and it's going to help me reach my goals.

I chose this lifestyle and it's just what I need to do to feel happy.

Here are a few tips to help you to stay motivated:

• 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲.

What's the point in doing something you hate? Life is too short. There are so many methods of training/types of sport or workouts out there.

You've just gotta find what's right for you.

• 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬.

This is a common tip that all PTs/coaches will tell you but it's an important one. It's so easy to overreach and aim for something massive but it can be off-putting when your goals seem a million miles away.

Think little and often. Chip away at those smaller goals and the bigger ones will eventually come.

Even the smallest achievement can bring you a sense of accomplishment and motivate you to keep going.

• 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐲.

Motivation comes in waves. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't.

This is why you can't always rely on motivation.

Rely on building good habits and disapline to get you to your goals.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁?

𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬:
During rest days, the body has a chance to remove excess lactate from the muscles. This helps to alleviate muscle pain and soreness.

𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞:
Exercise creates microscopic tears in muscle tissue. During rest days, cells repair and build up the muscle tissue.

𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲’𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬: Glycogen is a form of energy stored in muscles. Exercise depletes glycogen levels, which leads to muscle fatigue. Rest days allow the muscles to replenish their glycogen stores, as a result reducing muscle fatigue and preparing the muscles for their next workout.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐲:
Overexercising puts repetitive stress and strain on the muscles, increasing the risk of injury.

𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭:
Overexercising can tire the mind as well as the body. Tiredness can lead to poor decision making during a workout routine, which increases the risk of injury.

Creating a schedule and planning your rest days makes training more manageable. It can push you to work so much harder knowing you have a day of rest coming up.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗥/𝗖𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛.

3• 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝: Knowing you have a training session booked can help you maintain motivation to exercise.

4• 𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫: People often don't see results because they're not working as hard as they could. It's easy to slack off when you're by yourself, but having me challenge you and cheer you on can make a difference.

5• 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: As your personal trainer I can, set you weekly goals, then check in on a regular basis to see how much progress you're making.

WHAT BUILDS GOOD HABITS?

First off, it's making sure you show up.

'80 percent of success in life is just showing up' someone said that. I dunno who lol.

But it's so true!! You're not going to succeed if your not even showing up to work on developing good habits. Kinda goes without saying right?

Showing up means to be present in more than one way. It’s about being there, consistently, for the things that matter to you.

Showing up for yourself by pursuing your goals.

If you're struggling to actually get to the gym, don't plan large complex workouts.

The key is not to be perfect, but to simply show up. When you take even the smallest step towards building a new habit, you can shape your life.

Especially when you're finding it difficult to go to the gym. Don't focus so much on what you're going to do when you're at the gym, just get there!

Tell yourself you're only going to do 20 minutes. You'll know that'll it'll be over quickly, so you'll feel reassured that you'll be able to get it done and go home.

It's not the 20 minute workout itself that develops the habit. It's constantly showing up to do it which builds it.

You reduce your resistance to building new habits over time, and the new habit becomes part of what you do and who you are.

Once you start picking up your workout stuff and showing up to the gym without even thinking about it, you can begin to work on bigger and better things.

🌌 Should you go on a strict diet? 🌌

Well, are you training for something specific which requires you to go on a strict diet?

If not, then NO!

You do not need to go on a boring, restrictive diet to achieve general fitness goals like fat loss, strength or endurance.

You'll probably need to think about weather you should be in a calorie deficit, maintenance or surplus but that's a post for another time.

It's all about balance.

Eat wholesome foods that taste good and make you feel good.

Eat to fuel your body.

Allow yourself to have a treat. What's the point if you can't enjoy things?

If you don't like something, don't force yourself to eat it. I hate brown rice. You will not catch me eating it.

Discover recipes for healthier versions of the foods you love. There's thousands of recipes on Instagram and YouTube made by normal people who love to make content about good food. Use it!

There's no need to eat the same boring diet to achieve your goals. Keep it balanced, smash your training, rest and recover and your progress will flow 🌟
