Having been in lockdown for what feels like an eternity, it’s not surprising that many of us have lost all motivation. You are not alone if you feel distracted and lack lustre when it comes to working out. There’s no right way to feel or act at the moment as we’re all grappling with the loss of our everyday lives. The winter weather also doesn’t help but if you do want to use this time to track towards your goals there are some easy ways to get back into the swing of it.
Here are my top tips:
1. Setting a new goal and creating a plan of how to achieve it can help give you back a sense of drive. Create yourself a new weekly plan with a good mix of cardio, strength and stretching to keep it interesting. The key here is to try and mix things up a bit but the most important thing is to do what you enjoy.
2. Plan your exercise for when it’s easiest to do. For many this may mean exercising as soon as possible in the day before temptations and obstacles that require effort to overcome begin to appear.
3. Make it fun. Create an awesome playlist of your favourite tunes that will keep you moving. Or find a new podcast to keep you company on your run. Perhaps wear your favourite workout kit.
4. Break the process of exercising into chunks. For example, getting changed into sportswear only require a little effort. Stepping out the door only requires a little effort. Before you know it, it’s harder to not exercise than to exercise.
5. Keep in mind that every time you workout you release endorphins which give you that post-exercise buzz. This helps relieve stress and lift mood, moving you a bit closer to your goal.
The message? It’s totally OK if you need some time off working out to reset, but keeping up movement will benefit your mental and physical health during this weird time.
I am happy if you read this far 😀 I hope you find the tips useful.
