Formartine travelled to Portlethen on Thursday night to play Grampian in their league match. It was an evenly matched first half with most of the play happening in the middle of the pitch with both teams trying to create chances. Formartine manage to opening the scoring with a free kick from Alisa at the half way line which found Bethany in space, who turned took a touch and scored in the 18th minute. Formartine had a few chances to extend their lead before half time but some good saves kept the score at 1-0.
Grampian pushed forward in the second half and some good play on both wings lead to some important interceptions in defence and by goalkeeper Emily. It was a tight second half and although Formartine created some good chances they just couldn’t add to their 1 goal. It was goal mouth scramble at the other end that keep the game at 1-0 at full time. A competitive game in all areas of the pitch. The girls worked hard for the 3 points.

Bethany ⚽️
POM Emily W - a strong defensive display with good supporting play on the wing.

The girls travelled upto Elgin yesterday to play Moray. They started the game really well and battled for every ball. Their determination paid off in the 17 minute when Amelie played the ball in to Mia who the fed the ball through to Bethany who finished brilliantly to put us up 1-0. 2 minutes later Bethany picked the ball up again outside the box, beat a defender and fired the ball home to make it 2-0 to Formartine. Moray pulled a goal back just before half time.
The second half started a bit slower for us, we lost another goal to make to 2-2. Then were unlucky as Moray scored again.
The girls played fantastic for the last 20 minutes, where they were all over Moray; Emily W, Willow and Lily all had chances at goal which unfortunately didn’t hit the back of the net.
From a coaches perspective the girls effort, determination and performance was excellent.
A big shout out to our goalkeeper Emily F. Emily pulled off some fantastic saves and played really well! Emily was player of the match 👏
An unfortunate defeat for us but again the girls effort was brillant. A few decisions didn’t go our way but we will take this on the chin and build from that.
They worked well together as a team and continue to develop as a unit! It’s not great to see them hurting after a defeat but it shows they really care and want to do well.
Well done girls 🔴⚪️👏
You keep making the coaches proud 👍🏻

Formartine U14s had an early KO against Colony Quines at a sun drenched Methlick today.

Colony opened the scoring after a quick break through after 8 minutes in but this didn't deter the girls who equalised from a great build up from the middle with Bethany feeding the ball forward to the feet of Molly who broke clear of the Colony defence to put it in the back of the net at 10 minutes gone. 1-1

Another goal soon followed with a great build up from the back where Lily slotted the ball in to middle where Laurie was loitering with intent then finding Bethany on the half turn who drove through Colonys centre backs to slot it passed the advancing keeper 2-1 at 14 minutes gone.

A number of the U14s werent available today so we asked two of the older girls from our U12 Reds team to step up today which saw Emma make her debut at 11 aside on the wing along with fellow team mate Naomi in defense who was also making her debut at 11 aside. Its great that we can have this collaboration between teams to give girls the opportunity when available. Both girls made a great impact in the first half with the U14 girls encouraging them all the way.

HT 2-1

Second half we had lost our legs which let Colony start to dominate the midfield scoring 6 over the course of the half.

In amoungst that we had some great spells of football, driving runs that were just a couple of yards in the favor of Colonys keeper who was always quick off her line, and coordinated play on the wing channels which opened the pitch up to create the space for the attacks we made.

FT 2-7

Despite the score line it was a great competitive game and some great football on display from both teams. Was a great chance to learn what we did well and what we didn’t and we can feed that back in to our training and come back stronger the next time

Thanks to Colony for coming out and all the best for the rest of the season ahead.

POTM was Amelie, great effort on the wing, moving to space and delivering the ball through the channels to our strikers

Formartine U14’s started their league campaign on Saturday at Macduff v’s Deveronvale. The game started with Formartine pressure but Deveronvale defended well and it was Deveronvale that took the lead in the 18th minute. They then pressed for the second but were denied by some excellent saves by Emily F. Formartine got an equaliser in the 26 min after some good build up play in midfield which led to Molly finishing calmly when 1 on 1 with keeper. The second half started with Deveronvale pressing for an early lead and they got it after 10 mins and they added to their lead 5 mins later. Formartine didn’t give up and really started to press the ball more which lead to them creating some good chances. Their hard work was rewarded with a goal from Isla who met a cross from Oliwia in the box. Formartine continue to press for the equaliser with a free kick from Emily W and a few goal mouth scrambles but the Deveronvale defence stood up well and the final was 3-2. An an excellent game to start their U14 league campaign.

POM Isla with some strong play on the wing and a goal.

Last Saturday, 28th April, Formartine U14’s travelled to Lochside to play Grampian Girls in the League Cup. It was clear from the start the wind was going to play a factor in this game so Formartine decided to play into the wind in the first half. Formartine pressed from the start and a strong run through the middle from Bethany in centre midfield led to the first goal in 5mins and then 2 mins later when Laurie played a well timed ball out to Bethany who crossed it into the box for Molly to hit it first time, finding the top corner. Bethany then added a third goal in the 14 mins. However, after a strong start from Formartine, Grampian came back into the game with 2 goals in the 26th and 31st minute, with the score at half time 3-2.The second half was going to be influenced by the wind and Formartine took advantage of playing with the wind, keeping the ball on the ground and playing out wide from GK, Emily, and building play through the midfield , pressing the ball upfront with some tireless running from Olivia. It was a fast start to the second half with Molly driving through the middle and scoring with 45 seconds gone. Grampian’s GK had some very good saves, tipping a shot from Molly and a free kick from Emily W over the bar. Bethany added to the score in the 46th and 49th mins, after crosses from Isla and Hannah into the box. Molly and Bethany got another goal each in the last 5 mins to complete the scoring. The final score was 8-2. The girls now wait to see who they meet in the next round.
POM: Bethany with a strong performance in CM and 5 goals.
