Race report 🏁
On the race weekend that marks two years since my first race it was definitely a mixed bag of a weekend for the knockhill reverse Scottish championship!
The goal for this weekend was to beat my previous PB on reverse in 2023 of 1:03.307 and get in amongst the pack on the race starts.

Saturday
Warm up,
I did 4 laps with best time of 1:08.170 🫣
My goal for warm up was just finding my bearings on the reverse track as it becomes a completely different track from the normal direction and I’ve only done it once before which that was two years ago at my first ever race weekend!

Qualifying,
Placed 26th with a time of 1:06.718.
Not the best at all however i was thinking on the plus side as I had shaved 2 seconds off my warm up time.

Race 1 (10 laps)
Started 26th Finished 20th with a best time of 1:04.461 .
After having a horrendous start I found myself at the back and unfortunately pretty much stayed there the whole race. However yet again on the positive side I had shaved yet another 2 seconds off my time since qualifying.

Race 2 (8 laps)
Started 20th Finished 20th with a best time of 1:03.286 .
Got a good start in this race and then seemed to find myself in open air for most of the race and unfortunately just couldn’t close the gap on 19th… but again that’s another second off my time!
So I finished the day 5 seconds quicker than warm up!

Sunday
I skipped warm up due to rain and having drys on and there being a promise of a dry first race.

Race 3 (10 laps)
Started 26th finished 21st with a best time of 1:05.833
My gamble paid off and it was indeed a dry (sort of) race. However it was my first time riding in slightly damp conditions with dry tyres on so it took me a good 4 laps to get a feel for how much I could trust them which I discovered was quite a bit! But by then it was a game of catch up that started too late in the race.

Race 4 (12 laps)
Started 21st finished 17th with a best time of 1:02.175!!! Which might I add is actually my over all PB on both directions is normal direction being 1:02.379!
By far the best race of the weekend in every way! I got a really good start and got in on the action and mayhem that the first corner provides in every race. For the first 4 laps I had a really good battle with 666 David Magrath coming into the hairpin but eventually managed to dig deep and overtake on the outside at the hairpin and keep in the lead. From then on it was a game of catch up and I made good time and made few more places and was closing in on 16th by the last lap. Just felt really good on the bike and really started to grasp the reverse direction. It’s a shame it’s only on once a year!

Thank you to my sponsors for sticking with me through thick and thin and having my back, CLH Physio & Sports Therapy, and the bikes back,MR MOTO, every step of the way. It means the world. You truly enable me to chase this money pit of a hobby!

And again thank you to the photographers for catching these photos and memories I and others will forever be able to remember the weekend by. It wouldn’t be the same without you all!

Race report! 🏁

Sorry is a long one! Maybe go grab a tea or coffee before reading! 🤭

This weekend was my first weekend since I’ve started racing that I was truly relying on my own devices and of course it couldn’t have been a simple weekend! As soon as I pulled up at 12am to set up there was a torrential downpour!
Let’s just say the new heater I bought became my best friend and I am now well practiced on changing my wheels! 🤣

Saturday warm up it was still wet from the rain through the night so I changed to wets and just got a feel for riding in the wet again as I’ve only ever raced in the wet twice before.

By the time qualifying came around it had rapidly changed to dry however I still had wets on. I didn’t want to wreck them so I just went out for 3 laps to put a time in and came back in which, due to babying the tyres, I qualified 26 out of 27.

By the time race one came around I had changed to full drys. I had an extremely poor start which landed me back of grid however I managed to make 6 places and finish 21st which I would have struggled with in the past but this weekend I and others have noticed I’ve had a massive growth in my confidence in overtaking and general race craft.

As race 2 was approaching so were clouds as black as night. When the category before the CBs went out the heavens opened….
Now began the mad rush to change the tyres for the third time that day. Just as I was tightening up the last bolt 3 minutes before I was due to go out on track they announced that they were postponing our race till Sunday due to weather.

By this point every single item I had with me apart from my bedding was soaked through so for the rest of the evening I had the heater working overtime in amongst some socialising between rain showers.

Sunday morning came around and once again it was dry however I had a feeling it wouldn’t be for long so I sat warm up out as I had wets on and didn’t fancy yet another wheel change.

Low and behold our first race of the day was torrential rain. After two corners I was soaked through. However I managed to make up quite a few places in the race dispite the whole track being a continuous puddle. There was a red flag after a few laps so we had a race restart.
Though my suit and boots now felt like a wet suit after just coming out of the sea it had thankfully stopped raining however it was still very much wet! But yet again I made good progress and managed to finish 14th from a 21st start and possibly might have done better if I hadn’t messed up my gearing coming out of the hairpin on the last lap!

Between race 1 and 2 of Sunday there were sporadic showers making the tyre of choice unknown. The race before had a heavy down pour however the track was surprisingly dry! We only really noticed this 8 minutes before going out. So in a frantic rush yet again I managed to change the rear tyre however I didn’t have time to do the front. I managed to get out in time only having missed one warm up lap. I started 26th and finished 16th with one dry one wet tyre so I’ll take that!

After that the sun came out to play for a bit so I finished changing my tyres to all drys for the final race.

I started 16th on grid this time, however conceded 3 places due to a poor start. I managed to make it to 17th and then had some really good battles with 16 Grant Fraser and 26 Neill Marshall. Definitely a good finish to a soaking yet dry weekend!

Thank you to everyone that made me feel included through the weekend as I was really apprehensive about how it would play out. It really means a lot.

And thank you CLH Physio & Sports Therapy Therapy for continuously working away at helping me become racing fit dispite the many obstacles that are in our way.

And MR MOTO for being ready if the CB has any issues after a weekend and getting it ready for the next race weekend in the calendar.

As for photographers you’ve all spoiled me this weekend. Honestly can’t thank each and every one of you enough! I love each and every one. Make these weekends even more worth it!

A late one tonight (currently 1.15am) as it’s been a busy day with work at 5.30 am, after work picking up keys to mine and Adams new house, food shop for this weekend, and then the drive down and set up in the pouring rain! Finally time to rest for a few hours 🥱😴

RACE REPORT!! Beware it’s a long one!

First race weekend of the season finished with no issues!
I’m so happy with how the bike felt over the weekend she just kept wanting to give more. I haven’t felt like that in a year and a half. The only issue I came across this weekend was me so no excuses! Apart from the first race I felt tense over the weekend and struggled to move around on the bike properly hindering my riding and fluency.
Saturday;
Qualifying-
On Saturday morning I thought I did quite well as I felt good and the bike felt good. However it soon became apparent that I wasn’t the only one as over the course of winter the CB class seems to have gotten much quicker than what it was last year.
I qualified 26th with a time of 1:03.4.
The field was that close that there was only two seconds difference between 26th and 9th!
Race 1-
Definitely the highlight of the weekend. With a track temp of 25c and sun shining down it felt like summer!
I had a really poor start and conceded so many places into the first couple corners I found myself at the back of the pack.
It was now a game of catch up.
Within the first lap I regained 3 places and continued gaining places through the race. I finished 22nd managing to finish 4 places ahead of where I started and also equaling my PB of 1:02 not once but 4 laps of the race and the rest 1:03s so I’m really happy with that. Had some good battles as well.
Race 2-
I started on the grid 22nd. However yet again bottled it in the first few corners and found myself near the back of grid again to 29th place. Through the race I managed to make it to 25th on the second last lap but by then 24th was just out of reach. Best time I achieved in that race was 1:03.1 which was in the last lap.
Sunday;
Race 1-
Started 26th in grid and as seems to be the way for the weekend had a poor start yet managed to keep my place.
Through the whole race I had a really good battle with 71 Josh Horne battling for the place constantly coming in to hairpin two abreast. Once I saw the last lap flag I knew I needed to put my big girl pants on so coming into the hairpin two abreast once again I didn’t let it go this time and made the place however coming up the finishing straight I messed up my gears and I saw his front wheel drawing level with mine as the finish line approached. I managed to just hold my position by 0.03 seconds!
Race 2-
In typical knockhill weather hail, sleet then rain fell an hour previous to the race. Thankfully the track had just finished drying by our race. However I really wasn’t comfortable on the bike. After 6 laps I took the decision to pull into the pits and give up on the race as it could have been dangerous if I kept trying to force it so unfortunately the weekend ended in the low of a DNF due to not being comfortable.

Nonetheless I enjoyed the weekend as a whole and now know where my weaknesses are to build on for this on coming season.

Unfortunately due to financial constraints I will not be going to East fortune in a couple weeks time. The next race weekend I’ll be going to will be Knockhill on the 31st of May/ 1st of June. I’m planning on going to at least one track day at knockhill before to bring it right back to basics. As they say sometimes you have to go back to go forwards.

Thank you to my sponsors again,
CLH Physio & Sports Therapy for working on my fitness and also a muscular issue in my shoulder that’s been intermittent it really helps so much that you’ve got my back with really good quality and knowledgeable service.
MR MOTO for helping the bike run beautifully for the start of the year.

And thank you for everyone that helped and supported me it means so much and you all keep giving me the motivation to keep pushing and make me remember why I wanted to start this at the beginning.

And special mention to the photographers that take the time out of their weekends to get these amazing photos of us! Thank you so much it’s amazing having these as a memory of the weekends we race!!
