How can you tell the difference between a minke whale and a fin whale?

By the duration of the “waaoooowooo” 😆

Head to our main profile for the special story and more images of this spectacular sighting this week on a private charter to the Shiant Islands 🩵🐋

Our first sighting of a FIN WHALE this year! 😍

We took a special couple on a trip of a lifetime to the Shiant Islands and they saw rafts of puffins, guillemots, razorbills, cormorants, 2 sea-eagles, common dolphins and a minke.

On the return journey and with their cup over-flowing already, our guests spotted a big blow followed by dolphins chasing and then joining us. The dolphins stayed nearby but not engaging with us. Instead they were chasing a fin whale!! 🤩

It became clear this was no minke with a tall vertical blow creating a rainbow effect and 3 more appearances.

An AWESOME sighting of a fin whale, the second largest whale on the planet reaching up to 27m.

Credit to who was crewing for us and captured these unforgettable images 🙏

We have been contributing to the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust whale track app for a few years now and it’s now official! 👍🏻👍🏻

They work so hard towards understanding marine mammals on the west coast of Scotland and we are proud to be a part of this as a safe tour operator around marine wildlife. 😁 Delighted to be onboard officially!

You can sign up too!

She is being looked after until the owner comes forward.
