🚨Match Report: League Cup Group Stage - Home to Loanhead MYFC🚨
Our final match of the season saw us entertain familiar opposition Loanhead MYFC at Inch Park where teams were playing for pride more than anything having bowed out of the cup last week after defeat to Currie FC. South were looking to finish with a win and finish a passable 3rd in their respective group of 6.
The game didn’t exactly ooze with quality and at times, respectfully had the energy of a friendly game. The bumpy surface didn’t help matters. The home side had a handful of opportunities to open the scoring that were squandered - most memorably from corners where there were a number of delightful balls put in to great areas. Ironically, it was a Loanhead set piece that we failed to defend properly, and the opening goal came all too easily for the visitors.
Reezo put us back on level terms after half an hour with a neat finish from 18 yards in off the post.
HT 1-1
Loanhead regained the lead not long after the interval and South were from their best. The introduction of Ashton and Noah for the final 25 - both out recently with injuries - injected a bit of life into the squad. It was a great reverse ball from the prior that unlocked the Loanhead defence and Declan finished coolly into the bottom corner.
The pressure was now mounting for Miners, with Roma having most of the ball and plenty territory. Some strong defending and good saves from Loanhead’s stand-in goalie kept the game level. The home side were awarded a penalty on the hour mark which Harris converted terrifically into the bottom left corner.
South still had work to do in the final 10 as Loanhead went in search for a way back into the game. We didn’t do ourselves any favours with some of the clearances and lack of composure on the ball. Max made a couple of smart stops and caught cleanly 2 free kicks late on to save our blushes and take away the 3 points.
FT 3-2 South
Far from our best and a display that left a lot to be desired, but nice to end the season with a win. We were borderline for a squad today so credit it to the lads who grinded out the result 👍
Parents’ MOTM: Olly Neacy - a long overdue first MOTM award. His press and work rate off the ball had the opposition defenders constantly on their toes, and his running power on the ball always threatened. Ashton notably made a big impact when he came on as well 👏⚽️
