This is your reminder to be kind to yourself, especially if you've had a bad day.

And also, reviews mean so much to teachers. So if you've enjoyed a class, do take the time to leave the teacher a review 🙏

This is just a selection* of my yoga books I'm looking through this afternoon in preparation for the yoga therapy diploma I'm starting in just four weeks' time. Whoop!

As soon as I heard about yoga therapy it felt so right for me. I know that makes me very lucky - to find a new path that feels like my calling in every ounce of my being. We'll see where it leads ... and for now, I'm just so excited to be starting my training with (https://www.facebook.com/YogaUnited/).

I'm planning to share some of my journey here, so you'll get glimpses into what I'm learning and how I get on being a student again! My memory isn't great, so I'm planning to explore ways to help me learn and properly retain the information. I may share those too, if they seem interesting and potentially helpful to others!

*For anyone who doesn't know my background, I've been an editor and author for most of my adult life, meaning I don't need ANY excuse to buy books 😂

PS If you're curious about what yoga therapy is, this is how I'd sum it up right now (this might change during the course as I learn more!): Yoga therapy aims to empower people to feel better, especially those with physical or mental illnesses, either in a 1-1 or small group setting, using yoga and other mind-body techniques.

Check in with your shoulders. Are they up around your ears? If you've spent the day stressed or slouched at your desk, it's really easy to end up with a sore neck and tight shoulders.

Try this for a little relief:

Take an inhale, looking forward. As you exhale, look over your right shoulder. Inhale to look forward again, and exhale look over your left shoulder. Inhale to look forward. Exhale and bring your chin down to your chest. As you inhale, roll your right ear over to your right shoulder. Exhale to bring your chin down to your chest. Inhale to roll your left ear over to your left shoulder. Exhale and bring your chin to chest. Inhale to lift your gaze again.

Think you're too busy for yoga? You only need 10 minutes to move your body and feel better.

If the thought of a big commitment is putting you off, I promise you don't need an hour's class - whether that's at home or in a studio. And you don't need to do it every day, either.

Try one of my 10-minute YouTube videos (here: https://www.youtube.com/), or find another teacher you connect with - there are tons available to suit all tastes. I won't mind if it's not me!

And huge thanks to everyone who's sent me messages saying how much they're enjoying and feeling the benefits from my videos. I'm so glad they're making a difference 💛

Stretch your whole body while focusing on core strength! In just ten minutes, this sequence will engage all areas of your core, with the added benefits of helping improve your posture and balance ⚖️

It's a great one to do first thing, building fire in your belly and energy for the day, or before a walk or run to connect to your core stability.

Yoga is amazing for many things, but it can't perform miracles like bringing you a delicious iced drink in warm weather ️🌞

However, we do have something called Sitali Pranayama, or "cooling breath", which can can be just as refreshing and effective!

Follow these steps:

1) Either roll your tongue or purse your lips.

2) Inhale slowly through your curled tongue/pursed lips, as if you're drinking through a straw, and notice the cool air coming in.

3) Exhale slowly through your nose.

4) If it feels good, repeat a few more times.

How does it feel to relieve tension in your back and hips?

If you've been sitting or standing for long periods, your back or hips might be tight and/or ache. Our bodies were designed to move regularly, but often we find ourselves sitting or standing in the same position for an hour or more, and suddenly we're stiff or in pain.

🌟Try this lovely hip and back release to feel immediate benefits:

Find somehere to lie down on your back, such as your mat/bed/rug/carpet.

Bend your left leg, placing the sole of the foot down, and cross your right ankle over the top of your left thigh. You can use your right hand to gently press away your right thigh, opening your hip. Keep your shoulders relaxed.

Allow your legs to gently drift down towards the left side, using your left hand on your right knee here if that's helpful. Don't worry if your foot doesn't reach the floor.

Bend your right arm at a 90 degree angle on the floor and, if it feels okay in your neck, gaze towards your right elbow.

Take a few deep breaths like this, then repeat on the other side.

Oh, the joy of a pre-bank holiday to-do list when all you want to do is get out and enjoy the sunshine!

You might feel your shoulders rising and your forehead tensing. Me too. But try this:

Close your eyes for a moment or turn away from your computer. Inhale and roll your shoulders forward and up, and as you exhale, release them back and down.

You might like to do that a couple of times before you look back at your to-do list. Do you really need to get through everything? Before the weekend? Or can you find one thing to delegate, move to next week or even cut completely? Give yourself permission not to do it all - you don't have anything to prove, and you deserve to enjoy the weekend just as much as anyone else!

I promise you, the world won't end, and that little thing is a signal to yourself that you and your happiness matters 🥰

How does it feel to give your tired hands a 30-second break?

If you've been typing emails, carrying groceries, or gripping the steering wheel while rushing from A to B today, your wrists are probably feeling it. We use our hands constantly, but it's really easy to ignore them when we're trying to do it all.

Take 30 seconds right now for a quick reset:

Clasp your hands together and push your palms away so you can feel a nice stretch across your palms, through your wrists and your arms and shoulders. Inhale to lift up your hands. Exhale to hinge over to your right, trying to keep your chest gazing forward rather than pointing down. On your next inhale, lift back up to centre, and exhale over to your left. As you inhale, come up to centre again and release your hands.

It’s a tiny physical release that makes a difference 💫
