Massive congratulations to .music who completed The Lap 47 mile ultramarathon with 8800ft in the Lake District at the weekend 👏

Tom finished of Windermere in a very impressive time of 9 hours 33 minutes, smashing his sub 10 hour goal & earning him a top 50 finish (46th place overall - 38th male) from over 1200 runners.

Tom has been a pleasure to coach over the past 3 months and is starting to see the benefit of more structured training. I’m looking forward to see what he does next at Lakeland 100 ⛰️ at the end of July!

Coaching clients Tom and Lisa enjoying themselves Sunderland Strollers Running Club Pier to Pier circa coastal race today!

Not all official races need to be done as an A goal at race effort. Sometimes they are just part of a bigger plan 🎯

Focus on the process not the outcome!

3 years since I completed the South West Traverse 45 miler by

I sprained my ankle badly 11 weeks before the race, didn’t run for 7 weeks & my longest run was 6 miles in those last 4 weeks. I did do some walking & hiking when I couldn’t run to get some time on feet.

I placed 7th female.

Ultra Running is about more than training done, yes it helps and is important to be consistent within your training and adapt where necessary but make sure you work on all parts of the puzzle. Mental training, nutrition, kit, logistics, race ex*****on are all equally as important and will help you get to the finish line.

If you need guidance towards working towards your next race/goal then DM for more information.

Well done 👏 to coaching client Tom .music running 1:32:29 at Middlesbrough Half Marathon yesterday

A good solid run on non specific half marathon training coming just 5 weeks after completing 50 miles coastal path terrain.

Great for Tom to take some speed endurance forwards into his next training block aimed at the Lap 47 mile ultra in May!

A sub 90 half marathon is definitely there for Tom on focused consistent half marathon training!

6 years ago I completed Gloucester 24 hour track race and though not a 100 mile race; it was my first time reaching/going over the 100 mile distance.
I had one aim for the race which was to stay on the track for 24 hours.
I managed to stay on the track for the full 24hours completing a distance of 167.2 km (103.89 miles) achieving a 100 mile time of 22 hours 43 mins gaining the much sort after buckle of 100 miles in one day!
I finished 2nd lady and 12th overall. Which wasn’t bad at all for my first attempt and the fact I couldn’t run at all after 13 hours!
Prior to this race my longest duration race had been less than 11 hours on trail so this was a big step up.
Though my nutrition went really well & mentally I didn’t struggle with the going round in circles part but my god I’ve never felt pain like it when your legs and feet give out on you after running on a completely flat surface with no gradient change! My IT band, quads and feet were completely trashed from about 13 hours it was a mental battle of power walking the remaining 11 hours with nowhere to go just round and round.
This is why it’s important to have process driven goals not just outcome driven goals. I kept going beyond 13 hours when I could no longer run because my goal was to stay on the track for 24 hours. If my goal had been cover x distance in x time or pace and that hadn’t happened I may have been more inclined to stop early and may not have achieved as far distance wise or gained the 100 miles in one day buckle.
I would like another 24 hour track race attempt at some point now I have more race experience at 100 mile distances. Plus I’m sure the super shoes would add some extra oomph & help protect the legs on a hard surface!
I have race experience across a range of different distances, terrains and race formats with 53 races at marathon/ultra distance completed. If you need guidance towards your next event then get in touch for more information to find out about personalised 1:1 run coaching!

A year ago today I finished Autumn 🍂 100 miler by in 23 hours 43 mins to get the coveted 100 miles in one day buckle. This being my 5th race completion at the 100 miles distance.
This was a back up race for me after an impact fall with a rock at Lakeland 100 resulted in a DNF. My training had been minimal due to the quad injury. A finish was and always is my target.
When I got to 75 miles and went out on the last 25 mile leg; I did some quick maths and knew the sub 24 hour was possible but would be borderline if I slowed much. I could have said to myself oh I’ll just back off, walk more and be happy with the normal finishing buckle for under 28 hours. But I kept pushing as it’s not over until it’s over. I made it by 16 mins!
The last third of distance races is where it counts.
This is where your training comes in and where mental resilience counts! This is developed through consistent training, getting out of your comfort zone and surviving!
In my coaching I don’t just work on the physical training, mindset and race strategy approaches are also discussed. If you are seeking guidance towards your next ultra race then please get in touch to find out more 🏃‍♀️
It’s not too early to get started even if your race isn’t until next Summer … Winter 🥶 miles = Summer smiles!
