Now time for my normal late write up so now I will combine in to a summer sum up starts with the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally with Wattie in the Peugeot 206 GTi 180:

2 weeks before the Jim Clark Rally I got a message asking if I would be up to doing Argyll and I said I’ll think about it little did I know the entry was already in so i started getting prepared for the Jim Clark Rally.

With only getting seven stage until the tragic accident that claimed Dai I started to knuckle down because if some people don’t know Argyll is one if not the hardest closed road rally in the UK then as soon as I know it it’s early Thursday morning of the Rally and I am heading to Dunoon to do the recce and I was looking forward to the event.

Recce went well so we got checked in at the resort at lunchtime and got lunch at the resort and it’s definitely a comfortable place in the middle of Dunoon believe it or not it’s like a center parcs but in the north.

Then completed the rest of recce and headed to the resort and I done some notes and called it a night.

Friday morning rolled around and we headed to service to put the door numbers on and headed to scrutiny and once we got scrutinerd we once again head back to service to wait for the expansion tank now I suppose I better give a back story on that🙄.

On the week leading up to Argyll the Copland expansion tank sprung a leek and couldn’t find a replacement but headed to Argyll anyway so we scouted everywhere and Wattie’s pal found us one and the rest of the service crew of my Dad, Domi and Maddie picked it up on the way and fitted it and headed to drivers briefing and got our overalls on and headed to SS1.

SS1 and SS2 where 2 runs through the town center of Dunoon and went well so we went to SS3 and we saw a queue and a really big one and we could tell by the police and ambulance and service van of Justin Gunning and Michael Motes it was a big accident, Thankfully they where ok but that ment SS3,4 and 5 got cancelled se we headed straight to SS6 brilliant stage then a very short drive later went straight in to SS7 which is the hardest stage on this event and in the pitch black but we soldierd on and got to service and car spanner check and headed to bed.

Then day 2 arrived and an early ish start we headed to the first 2 stages which are re-runs of what we done last night SS6 and SS7 so we blitzed them and headed to SS10 and 11 which is the same stage ran twice and really enjoyed it then headed to SS12 which was a run over the the hills really fast and tight but enjoyed it then service.

Another spanner check and some food then headed for the last loop of the rally.

SS13 was a longer version of SS7/9 by 3 miles but fast near the end then headed to SS14 a short but technical blast then headed to SS15 which is a re-run of SS10/11 then it was the home stretch over the hill stage then it was done rally completed just needed to get back to Dunoon and hand in time cards and Damage Dec and that would be it but when we handed in our time card the car ran out of fuel on the round about so we pushed the car in to a laybay and waited for some fuel. Got fuel in to the car headed to service then car on trailer and home time.

But on the way home I could see a thunder storm brewing in the distance I thought it was a passing one but it wasn’t started with some spots then it went to light shower to hevey rain and got heavier some how then got home and watched the lightning light up the house which was cool and got to sleep then it was the count down to Mach 1.

Mach 1 is a rally based further from Dunoon by 2 hrs Near Campbeltown at Machrahanish after a combined 6-7 hrs drive we arrive got scrutinised and had a pedal in and headed to Campbeltown for food and got to digs going the other way 30 mins out side the base.

SS1 was a short blast through the accommodation blocks and SS2 was the long stage on the taxi way no issues but tyres were. The rest of the day was fine trying to make the tyres last but wasn’t working.

Day 2 was a different story came to the airbase to find gearbox oil on the floor and after bodging we got out just in time until the gear linkage pops of the gear box and stuck in second gear so crawled back to service and popped the linkage back on and got back out to finish the rally.

Thanks for all the support and now get ready for Arbroath stages at RM Condor…

So then it has been a while since I have been on the page so I better give an update so let’s start at Kinloss. Managed to do 10 miles of SS1 until the engine spat coolant everywhere which put us out of SS2 and the car kept overheating on every stage so we ran under Super Rally and finished last

Next the Jim Clark there was a lot of prep of being my first pacenote rally and the Friday night went well until the last run of Bothwell with the window steaming up at the start. Then unfortunately the rally was stopped on Saturday morning due to the loss of Dai Robert’s and that ment the Sunday rally was stopped aswell.

Now the next rally is the Dunnon Presents Argyll Rally.

Yet again partnering up with Wattie Warwick in the 2l Peugeot 206 GTi seeded car 85.

Hoping for a clean run for mine and Wattie’s first time doing Argyll stages look challenging adn hopefully bag some championship points for STRC and NETRC.

Hopefully see some on the stages.

Seeded 58 out of roughly 80 entries. Don’t know when I will do my post event report since I am always late at them. The rally starts at 9am and finishing roughly 5ish pm you can find the results at scotresults.org and yeah hopefully see some of youse at Kinloss…

So Knockhill 2025 I showed up on Saturday afternoon to a fecking cauld Knockhill for my first rally of the year and Wattie’s first rally of the year. We got scrutineerd and got to Dunfermline for a nice dinner at Lucas kitchen and done some maps.

Sunday morning rolled around to find out that wattie couldn’t hear me and I could hear him so we messed about and decided just for me shout at him for the first 2 stages but never put a foot wrong.

For the next 6 stages nothing went wrong apart fighting with a Subaru but nothing exciting.

Stages 9 and 10 where the best 2 stages from the event getting ran in the night time and that was the rally done finishing 33rd overall and 6th in class 3.

So the rest of the team of Des, Dave and Drew. Des and Rhys finished 8th and 1st in class 2, Dave and Cammy finished 12th and 2nd in class 2 and Drew and Shona retired before ss2 because of a collapsed wheel bearing.

Thanks to Wattie and Alan for the opportunity to sit with Wattie and all the service crew and my dad for keeping the car going.

Until we meet again.

So it was the Scottish Single Venue Rally Championship awards on Friday night(I know am a bit late but however).

Really good night at the Laural bank hotel in Glenrothes with me collecting my trophy for 1st class 2 co-driver.

But anyway on to my next topic I am doing the Border Access Knockhill Stages next Sunday(might do a post before the event I don’t know) with Wattie Warwick in a Peugeot 206 GTi don’t know what number yet as of this time but will be a good day out in class 3.

But anyway I will leave it here the now will post closer to the event.

Thanks

So I know I am a bit late to the 2024 season review but it doesn’t matter because it’s here now.

So first I would like to thank My mum and dad for their support.

Then Dom, Shona, Potter, Des, Cammy for their tricks and tips.

Also I would like to thank all of the drivers for the best first year for me co-driving and to all the marshals especially Dawn, Keith, Liam and others.

So the results:

Knockhill: 10th overall and 1st in class 2
Crail: 53rd overall and 13th in class 3
Mach 1: 30th overall and 3rd in class 2
Kames Summer Stages: 14th Overall and 3rd in Class 1

Then the championships:
Scottish Tarmak: 21st Codriver 8th in class 2 and 18th in class 3
North Of England: 28th Codriver 4th in class 2 and 12th in class 3
Scottish Single Venue: 5th Codriver and 1st in Class 2 and 10th in class 3

Personally I think that’s a good first year full of highs and lows

But the highlight is getting 1st in class 2 on my debut event and on the SSVRC

Overall a good year also with some spectating and marshaling.

Here’s to a good year and hope to see some on the stages.

I know am a few days late but I better do it Well Kames Summer Rally…

It started on the Monday of the rally (my birthday) from Niall Cowan Jnr by saying his Dad Niall Cowan Snr needed a co-driver so messaged back by saying yeah what could possibly go wrong. Sunday rolled around and I was surprised of how well built the car was as the MG3 challenge has ended they wanted a skid and to show the juniors at what a clubman car was.
So after the track walk we started at 23 and off for SS1 and no drama and not on spanner touched the car through out the whole day and one set of tyre mind you I think they where part worn already I think and only 1.1 mile stage 14 stages. But overall a good day 16th overall and 3rd in class.

Thanks to the Cowans for giving me the opportunity to sit in the MG3 and definitely would recommend sitting in one and decent craik out them and they are friendly.

Also thanks to East Ayrshire Car Club all the marshals especially Dawn and Keith on the start line and Christina and Stewart on the finish line and to Russell and Gavin to organiseing the event.

On to the next one…

What a weekend it has been for us at Mach 1…

A long 4 and a half hour trip to RAF Machrihanish held the 6th round of the Scottish Tarmack rally Championship and my 3rd time competing.

SS1 was the tricky but quick Gatehouse Stage nothing went wrong and the same for SS2 nothing went wrong but we were quicker because we were on hards.

Second loop SS3 nothing to report but SS4 was a nightmare coming down the straight the gear leaver snapped in half which made us slow because it snapped on the bottom and we couldn’t shift gears so we made it back into the lunchtime halt and we fixed/bodged then it was on to SS5 and another issue occurred. We put on two brand new Michelin tyres on the front and we had a puncher in the front left and wasn’t until we got to the end of stage we realised that we had it so changed it and we went on our way to SS6 with mixed tyres and down the order we pushed like hell to make up time.

SS7 and SS8 was hammer down time to make up more time and pass more people and ended the day sitting 29th overall and 5th in class not the result we wanted but we could only push on harder from there.

Sunday morning came around and an early start to for us we went out at 08:51 to a long que🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ so we sat about so we could go in.

SS9 drama free and 2nd front wheel drive happy days then SS10 rolled around yet again drama free apart from catching slow cars.

Before SS11 there was a long wait due to cars getting recovered and so we waited and waited till we got going again. We felt like the quickest class 2 car and we were catching all of the class 2 competition until one of them went for another lap and the other blew the engine so it was a 3 way battle until we got given a wrong time.

SS12 was a heart breaker due to a puncher on the 2nd lap of the stage and dropped us to 30th overall and 3rd in class.

Well done to Shona and Violet on finishing the rally with no drama.

Gutted for Pottor and Gemma on have a drama full weekend quick stage one to a head gasket going and getting a new engine from Campbeltown and in the end knackering the gearbox in the end.

Thanks for the support everyone has given me and one to the next one…

So rally week again… this time on the opposite side of Scotland.

Mach 1 stages holds 12 stages and 95 stages miles on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th at Machrihanish Aerodrome near Campbell town. With 8 stages and 45 miles on Saturday and 4 stages and 50 miles on Sunday.

The car I am in is a Citroen C2R2 driven by Dave McIntyre so the limiter is going to happen at some point dunno when but will be a very quick hurl with us being seeded car 10.

Spectators are allowed but it is to far for some people £10 on Saturday and free on Sunday first junior at 10:00 and first senior at 10:24 (approx).

Which leads me on to my new support… Lee Lannon Work Lsr of LSR Lannon Scaccia Racing who is a non profit organisation who help co-drivers, rallycross drivers and so on and there is a selection of supported co-drivers even me with a lot experience go and see what Lee has on offer and hopefully you can find the right co-driver for you

I will try and stay in touch but probably not…

Cheers

Crail 24…

A event I have been to 7 times now and I have never been around it properly only on a test day at the start of February but never competed but now I have and wasn’t a bad one either.

Starting Car 68 with Lenny Jones in his stunning 2.0l Red top Vauxhall Chevette I knew we were going to catch a few people during the rally.

5 4 3 2 1 Go…
Stage one was a go
Went steady during the stage because Lenny was trying to learn the car and the new gear box and trying to get used to each other.

Stage 2 went steady but on a quick right left we hit a tyre and lost 30 seconds or something like that

Stage 3 was a weird one to be honest coming along the perimeter of the airfield but towards a chicane the road was half gravel and half concrete and hit the lip going about 70-80 mph then we heard clunking noises coming from the passenger rear and we both thought the calliper fell off so we kept going till we found a safe place to pull over we managed to pull over next to Alan Kirkaldy who’s engine cut out so we display the o.k and Lenny started to take of the wheel to see what was going on and it turned out it was the wheel bent and it was hitting the calliper so we replaced the wheel and since it was the end of the stage we had to let stage 4 begin and by god what a good bit we stopped at most impressive person and the quickest man in the borders Mr Dom Buckley in one of the Polo rally 2 sideways as always dominating the competition like always and then we saw some familiar faces like Drew and Shona, Stuart and Lisa, Ruan and Ian and Colin And Gail and Craig (Potter) who retired before us on SS3.

Back to service to reprep and get ready for SS5 so have the car a once over and on we went to SS5.

SS5 was a run to get back into the groove sadly as we came past the first chicane and here was Drew and Shona parked off the road with the corsa in a sorry state due to brake issues then the next lap we took the wrong line and hit the tyres which took out the drivers side of the front bumper so we started to push a wee bit more to make up more time and we went on to the final stage for a clean run with us finishing 53rd overall and 17th in class.

Thanks to all the marshals for standing in the normal Fife wether and thanks to Dom, Des, Potter, Shona, Drew, Stuart and my dad for support and helping out and thanks to Lenny for a good day out.

Next will be the Mach 1 stages by Dunfermline Car Club in Dave McIntyres Citroen C2 R2 MAX on the 6th and 7th of July

See you all there

Cheers
