Injured? Me? Nah, I prefer to call it “forced creativity."”

Turns out hips are kinda important (who knew?!)

But does that mean I stop training?

Absolutely not.

It just means I’ve leveled up my ability to modify, adapt, and find new ways to stay strong—while also avoiding looking like a baby giraffe learning to walk.

The key?

Controlling what I can control.

I might not be smashing PBs right now, but I can keep moving, keep my nutrition in check, and stay on top of recovery.

Progress doesn’t stop just because things don’t go to plan—it just looks a little different.

Coaching clients: ✅
Finding sneaky ways to train around this injury: ✅
Accepting that I might actually need to rest sometimes: ❌ (we’re still working on that one).

Moral of the story?

Injuries happen, but movement is medicine—so adjust, don’t quit.

Now excuse me while I perfect my one-legged squat game!

While continuing to enjoy wholesome food, movement and good health.

"Control What You Can"

This journey has reminded me of a powerful truth: we don’t always control what happens to us, but we do control how we respond.

Needing a hip replacement wasn’t part of my plan

Instead of focusing on what I can’t do right now

I’m focusing on what I can do

I can fuel my body with the right nutrition

I can keep my mindset strong

I can adjust my training to stay active in ways that support my recovery.

Life will always throw challenges our way

Injuries

Setbacks

Unexpected detours.

But we get to decide how we show up

How we adapt

How we move forward.

If you’re facing something out of your control, ask yourself

What can I control? Start there.

"Life Throws Curveballs, Even at Trainers"

As a personal trainer, movement has always been my passion, my career, and my way of life.

But life has a way of testing us, and I recently got news that I need a hip replacement.

At first, I felt frustrated, even a little lost.

How could this happen to someone who’s built a life around health and fitness?

But the truth is, our bodies have their own timelines, and challenges don’t mean defeat—they mean adaptation.

This journey is going to be a test of patience, resilience, and everything I preach to my clients: listen to your body, honor the process, and come back stronger.

Setbacks don’t define us its how we rise from them does.

To anyone facing unexpected obstacles, know this:

You’re not alone, and you are stronger than you think.

Here’s to embracing the journey, one step at a time.

Meet my client, Susan.

So far, she has achieved an incredible 22lbs weight loss!

Susan is a perimenopausal mum juggling life with two young kids.

Her secret to success? Sticking to our golden rule: Never give up.

Despite 12-hour shifts and the constant demands of parenthood, Susan has stayed focused.

On her days off, she balances childcare, study deadlines, and everything else life throws at her.

Even during a 7-day all-inclusive Christmas holiday, she stayed on track, showing incredible commitment.

From nursery drop-offs to school runs, she keeps moving, all while addressing and overcoming emotional eating patterns.

Together, we’ve worked to steer her away from using food as a coping mechanism during tough times.

Over the last 8 months, Susan has consistently trained at home with second-hand equipment she’s collected.

Some weeks, she’s managed three workouts; other weeks, just two—but she never lets the impossible stop her.

She also challenges herself to hit 8K steps daily, which she enjoys as part of her routine.

Her diet is built on whole, unprocessed foods, with weekend prep keeping her on track.

But Susan still enjoys the occasional Mars bar or glass of wine—balance is key!

She consistently hits her protein targets and has learned that progress doesn’t mean being in a calorie deficit all the time.

This year, her goals are to build strength and drop more fat.

Susan knows what works for her—a combination of smart strategies, consistency, and the power of accountability.

Her journey is proof that, no matter how busy life gets, success is possible when you commit to the process!

Mindset plays a crucial role in fueling gym performance and consistency🧠🧠

Here's how a positive and determined mindset contributes to gym success:

1. Motivation and Commitment:
A growth mindset helps you stay motivated and focused on long-term goals.

Viewing challenges as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks keeps you coming back, even on tough days.

2. Consistency:
Building healthy habits requires mental discipline.

With the right mindset, you'll be more likely to stick to a workout schedule and prioritise your fitness journey over distractions or excuses.

3. Overcoming Plateaus:
Progress at the gym isn’t linear.

A strong mindset enables you to push through plateaus, setbacks, or slow results by embracing persistence and adaptability.

4. Resilience and Mental Toughness:
Gym sessions can be demanding.

A determined mindset helps you endure discomfort, push through fatigue, and stay resilient in challenging workouts.

5. Positive Self-Talk:
A positive mindset encourages self-belief.

Telling yourself "I can do this" or "I'm improving every day" fosters confidence, which directly impacts performance.

6. Focus and Clarity:
A focused mindset keeps distractions at bay and enhances the quality of your workouts.

Being mentally present allows you to optimise your form, intensity, and results.

7. Enjoyment and Passion:
Cultivating a mindset of gratitude and enjoyment turns gym time into something you look forward to, making fitness a sustainable and rewarding part of life.

By adopting a strong and optimistic mindset, you not only fuel your physical performance but also build the mental foundation necessary for long-term success in fitness and beyond.🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠✨️✨️✨️💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

What’s holding you back this year?

Floating through gym sessions without a plan or progression.

Mindlessly going in and out of the gym without a structured program and measurable progression over time won’t get you closer to your goals.

If you’re lifting weights that are too easy—where you pop those weights down easily chat without challenge—they aren’t doing the job.

It’s time to focus on lifting heavy for you.

Under-fueling your workouts.

We need to properly fuel those sessions. That means prioritising carbs, getting enough protein, and focusing on nutrient timing to support performance and recovery.

Many women I work with start off undereating, which hinders their progress.

Often, more food—not less—is the answer to optimise gym performance, maintain muscle, and build strength.

Lacking accountability.
Accountability is one of the top reasons women reach out for coaching.

Having the support of a friend, group, or coach can be life-changing when it comes to staying consistent and getting results.

Losing patience.
Fat loss and muscle gain take time. Jumping from one plan to the next without giving your body a chance to adapt leads nowhere.

Long-term results come from showing up consistently and ticking all the boxes over time.

Unrealistic expectations.
If you’re only putting in partial effort, expect partial results.

Either lower your expectations or raise your standards.

Personally, one of my goals is to gain strength and muscle mass.

This will involve:-
1. Appropriately fueling my body
2. Time and keeping it real
3. Touch base with my coach (yes, a coach) to keep me on track
4. Stick to my plan

But instead of rushing the process, I’m looking at summer as my target—not six weeks. Ibiza is calling.

It’s a long-term commitment, and I’m ready to show up for the work.

If you’re ready to do the same, let’s make this your year.
