Match Report: Parents vs Children: Grit, Glory & Questionable Recovery Times.
The annual Parents vs Children showdown delivered exactly what it promised: drama, laughter, unexpected heroics, and several adults realising they are no longer “match fit”.
The Teams
Rohan’s Rockets
Harris’ Hammer Throwers
Stacy’s Stormers
Finlay’s Finest 🏆
Mo’s Machines
After a fiercely contested afternoon, it was Finlay’s Finest who claimed bragging rights, crowning themselves champions which will live long in the memory.
The Dads
The Dads were in decent form technically, but it became clear that strength and conditioning had been based on optimism rather than evidence. By the final games, exhaustion had well and truly set in, with recovery walks replacing sprints and stretching becoming a long-term lifestyle choice.
Special mention to Andy, who finished the last game looking like he’d just stepped straight out of the shower, a truly elite sweat rate showing his effort level was off the scale.
Key Incidents
Lewis very nearly ended Nathan’s football career after an unfortunate clash that saw Lewis’ head make aggressive contact with Nathan’s knee. Medics were not required, but dignity was certainly lost.
Rab put in a heroic display in goal, throwing himself into a couple of full-blooded sliding tackles that were applauded by all, and which he will absolutely be feeling tomorrow.
Claire, representing Mo’s Machines, showed huge determination and energy throughout, battling hard and refusing to be overawed despite the chaos around her.
The Mums
The Mums were among the standout performers of the day, bringing effort, energy, and no shortage of running. Ashley, backed strongly by Stacy, put herself forward for ‘Most Improved Player’ honours after a shaky start (her first touch described early on by Ethan as “shocking”, football analysis at its finest).
What followed was a massive second-half turnaround, capped off by improved athleticism and effort prompting David to call out:
“Look at the pace down that left wing!”
There were some interesting tactical opinions on team participation floating around from the sidelines, but we’ll put that down to competitive spirit and differing views on rotation policy.
Ringergate
A quiet investigation is ongoing into the involvement of Rhys’ brother and Nathan’s cousin, whose suspiciously high performance levels raised eyebrows and significantly shifted the balance of power. Paperwork is being reviewed.
Final Whistle
Kids ran relentlessly
Parents ran out of steam
Finlay’s Finest ran off with the honours
Thanks & Festive Wishes
A huge thank you to the coaches for organising such a great, fun event for everyone, it was clearly enjoyed by players, parents, and spectators alike.
Wishing the team and all the families a brilliant Christmas and a very happy New Year 🎄⚽
