Monifieth v Dundee West.

The lads followed up last week’s performances with another strong showing from both teams.

In the first game, the boys dominated for large periods. What was especially pleasing, however, was how well they absorbed the pressure from the opposition when it came. Positions were rotated again, but the boys did not shy away from their responsibilities. It was a valuable team performance.

In the second game, the same determination was on display. The boys are clearly growing in confidence, learning to pass and move as a team, chasing down every ball, and working hard for one another. They are supporting their teammates well, filling in when others are caught out of position.

Well done, boys — keep it going! ⚽👏

Monifieth v Arbroath Blues

In the first official games of the new season. The wet/heavy conditions made it tough for the both teams.

The Ronaldo's played some intricate football from back to front. We have been focusing on positional responsibility recently and each player worked their socks off. Special mention for Leo who definitely had his shooting boots on today.

The Messi's followed suit again with some great build up play in the difficult conditions. The boys are realising that if they allow the ball to do the work then we can really hurt teams with quick and clinical passing.

Special mention to all the goalkeepers today. It was cold, wet and miserable but they kept their concentration levels up on a day where they undoubtedly had the toughest job on the pitch due to the weather conditions.

2 extremely positive team performances and wins today. Keep it up lads!!!

TEAM OF THE WEEK

2 strong performances for both teams.

In the Messi team we observed some fantastic team passing in windy conditions the boys played using triangles, fast movement, passing their way out of trouble and through the attacking 3rd using the width of the pitch to pe*****te behind the defenders. One of the best displays we have seen this year and good to see stuff we see weekly on the training field coming off.

In the Ronaldo game. The team worked hard as a unit in what was an evenly played match. We managed to get up and down the pitch. The boys fought for each other with some very well taken goals. The team is moving in the right direction week on week which is great to see.

What was great to see also was that the boys are rarely getting on each other's backs now and are learning that a positive team is a happy team.

The Messi's voted for the whole team to be captains.

Ronaldo's voted for Joe and Leon.

Well done to all the boys!!

Monifieth Athletic FC will be putting down fertiliser on the pitches at Riverview, Monifieth today (Wednesday 30th April) and over the coming days. The fertiliser is safe to use but could the public please be mindful with children/dogs and wash hands as appropriate if any contact.

Teams of the week for the past 2 games.

FAIRMUIR

On a damp night the lovely weather that we had been having turned. The boys all adapted to the sodden grass pitch and we again saw some great team performances.

Joshua was voted man of the match for the Messi's and displayed great vision, passing and working hard on a large pitch.

Alex and Joe were voted for in the Ronaldo's. This was a tough game as the temperatures had dropped. The boys fought until the end.

KIRRIEMUIR

Both teams excelled here, with the passing and creating of chances. Its difficult to try and not repeat myself but the belief and confidence the boys are showing is growing each week. The Ronaldo's played the game of the season I am told. Well done to all the boys who I have been informed could all have made the team of the week.

Messi's voted for the whole team to be captains this week.

Ronaldo's voted for Callum who helped instill confidence in his team mates and showed captain attributes
