Release pent up energy, emotions and stresses - find your release to regulate your nervous system, restore emotional balance and prevent burnout.

In traditional Chinese medicine, the liver is considered the organ that holds resentment, Bitterness and suppressed anger - the liver is responsible for the smooth flow of vital energy throughout the body. Resentment is the backlog of frustration that has been swallowed rather than expressed. When emotions are suppressed, this energy stagnates in the liver, leading to a sense of pressure, irritation and physical tension.

Believe this or not, we most certainly released some tensions and frustrations this morning - with a cathartic padwork session.

There is no end goal to getting in shape. You’re signing up for a lifestyle, not a six week challenge.

Whether you’re a lady or a man, over a particular age, or under - it’s the same - you need to lift heavy things and get out of breath regularly, consistently and for the long-haul - so find something / somewhere you enjoy.

Here, we have 18 acres of private woodland; no mirrors, no loud music, no standing in lines, no bad smells: just clean air, earthy and loamy offering a rich and immersive sensory experience alongside your workout.

The airborne antimicrobial compounds known as Phytoncides, are chemicals and essential oils released by trees to protect themselves from insects, bacteria and fungi. Inhaling these volatile oils are proven to enhance immune function, reduce stress, anxiety and symptoms of depression, to improve sleep quality and lower blood pressure.

The distinct aroma of the woodland floor, the rich dark smell of decomposing organic matter, is known as Humic or Humus and this scent is so grounding that inhaling it has been shown to relieve stress, elevate mood, and trigger the release of the bonding hormone oxytocin.

We got down close to the woodland floor today, with some Half-Kneeling Windmills; strengthening our core, building shoulder stability and improving hip and spinal mobility - adding to the fun when the weight was exchanged for a full cup of water!

Muddy knees, laughter, smiles, stronger bodies and improved moods all around.

Penny and Albert certainly tried their best to get at the delicious chocolate cake and it seems the buzzard did too!

The ‘Never Two In A Row’ rule.

A simple rule that gives you permission to be human, to be imperfect, a small rule that can make a big difference.

It’s okay to miss a workout, no worries, a single missed session is fine - just don’t miss two in a row.

An unhealthy meal today, enjoy it - and adjust the next one.

A pyjama day is fine - make sure you get dressed tomorrow.

Missing one workout is a mistake, missing two in a row is the beginning of a new, bad habit. Once you skip two days, your brain starts viewing the absence as normal. It’s the difference between a pause and a stop.

Following the Never Two In A Row rule helps solidify fitness (or any habit) as a lifelong habit. Over time, you’ll build resilience, discipline, and a mindset that prioritises the habit. You’ll also see better results because consistency is the foundation of progress.

One missed workout won’t derail you, but missing two - will.

Did you know that humans can see more shades of green that any other colour.

We are wired for woodland.

Maybe, if you’re feeling off, try reconnecting with the grounding calm of the outdoors - submerge yourself in green.

Studies show that green spaces can lower stress levels, regulate mood, improve concentration and support overall emotional wellbeing. It is proven that even simply looking at greenery can ease eye strain and mental fatigue, and that patients recovering from surgery heal faster and require less pain relief when they have a view of trees.

EDIT: so sorry, my research was incorrect, this is a Greater Spotted Woodpecker.
Not rare, in fact, it’s the most common woodpecker in the UK, with an estimated 100,000 breeding pairs - but still very lovely to take the time to watch and listen.

The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is the smallest of woodpeckers and rare indeed. This species of Woodpecker is in significant decline in the UK - Currently listed as red, under the birds of conservation concern.

It is estimated that there are as little as 600 breeding pairs in the UK.

Here we have a nest full of noisy little baby birds! The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker typically lays 4-6 eggs, and it sounds like quite a few hatched!

It was the noise that caught our attention and we took some time to just stand, listen and watch, and to our joy and delight, an adult bird returned to the nest to feed it’s calling babies.

The male Woodpecker would have done most of the work excavating the cavity in which to nest, high up in a decaying tree - this is just one reason to not be too ‘tidy” in the woodlands, the standing deadwood is so important to habitat.

Now both parents will feed the chicks, every five to ten minutes for about three weeks until the chicks are ready to leave.

It was widely discussed this morning, that if I used a bit of AI, I could make it look like we could all do the L-Sit.

No! Absolutely not.

These are always real photos; unedited, unfiltered. Real photos of real people, with realistic goals, and real progress.

In 2023 France became the first country in the world to make it a legal requirement for all social media influencers to clearly label any photo that had been digitally filtered or retouched, with enforcement penalties in place.

Other countries have now introduced voluntary guidelines.

What France recognised is that there is a cost to unrestricted filtered content; rising rates of body image disorders and eating disorders - and a rising demand for cosmetic procedures amoung young people, particularly teenage girls.

Not many of us can L-Sit. Yet. We are working on it though. Fitness is a journey, a way of life, pushing, challenging and growing our bodies.

This is what Fit, Strong and Heathy looks like.
