Disappointing end to 2025 for the Blues. So many positives for the boys though this year. Getting stronger all the time and we are very proud of the close knit team they are becoming.

Summary
So we’ve reached the mid way point of the season, the Christmas break has arrived. Santa is obviously busy at this time of year & he may not have got round to reading the letter from Drig Blues because he definitely did not deliver the ask of a festive 3 points this morning.
The unbeaten run has come to an end, but Drig can hold their heads up high & reflect with pride on the first half of the season.
Things didn’t start well, kick off was delayed by 2 minutes as it appeared that simply passing the ball to the centre to start the match was a challenge for both teams.
Drig looked half asleep and allowed Horsforth to boss the opening stages, including a stunning volley against the bar in the first minute. The visitors were proving a good, strong outfit, with a number of classy operators in their starting line up. It took Drig a few minutes to get to grips with them.
When they did, it became a throughly enjoyable game to watch, perfectly showcased by Bobby Doyle’s dancing run that deserved a goal. Drig fought well throughout the first half, but were ultimately undone by a number of long range shots being poached home by the Horsforth strike force. The half time 4-0 scoreline was not a true reflection of the game.
Something changed at half time, Drig came out fighting and controlled proceedings in the early stages. Clark Smith was like a man possessed, literally covering every blade of grass, winning every dual & nailing every pass. Outstanding.
The game ebbed & flowed, it was feisty, it was fast, it was a proper football match. Finally Drig got what they deserved…albeit in comedic circumstances, Bobby Doyle somehow finding the net via goalkeepers head. “Win the second half” shouted the drigites, and they very nearly did, conceding late on to level the half & give the scoreline a one sided feel once again.
Regardless of the result, Drig Blues look in really good shape as we move into 2026, they continue to improve week on week, a huge compliment to the management team. We march on.
All that remains for this writer is to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. We break to give our fingernails time to grow, our voices time to heal & our hands time to get warm.
