25/26 Drighlington Juniors U14, Drighlington (2026)

After a week off, the Squad returned to the Drighlington Moor, aiming for back to back wins in the league against a well organised Walton United.

A blustery day with a bare squad, the lads started on the front foot, knowing that Walton could present a threat if we didn’t take our chances and win our battles.

A moment of lost concentration at the back allowed Walton to overload their attack and go 1 up.

The lads stuck to the task, winning a free kick in a central area. Theo placing the ball into the box, with an on rushing Sam heading the ball over the keeper draw us level.

The lads kept up the pressure and the 2nd soon came again from a great Theo assist to Sam who struck the ball low into the net to take us 2-1 up

Half Time 2-1

Second half started the same with Drig enjoying plenty of possession and chances. The next opening came from a Sam shot parried by the Walton keeper into the path of Jacob Parkin to finish from close range - 3-1

Walton kept pushing and soon got back into the game to make it 3-2
Walton kept overloading their attack and again managed to create another chance with a cross from the right to finish to draw the scores level, 3-3

The lads knew they had to dig deep, overloading our right with Jacob stead doing his best to make runs in behind.
One of these finally paid off with a Jacob stead run and cross through to Sam to score his 3rd and to take us 4-3 up with a few minutes left.

The lads managed the game out to the end and secured a well earned 3 points.

2 great back to back wins now, the teamwork and morale in the team was excellent today, and just what was needed to fight and get the win.

A new Man of the Match today, with Noah taking up the right back position. Noah had an excellent game, really growing into the position from the start and winning pretty much every ball 👏👏👏

4 games left now in the league, where we’ll keep pushing keep our position in the top 5!
No European places to fight for but it’ll be a fantastic season if we can finish where we are or higher.

Next fixture - Sunday 19/04 Away vs Ossett

Following disappointing defeats in the last 2 league fixtures, we travelled over to face Crofton, looking to bounce back with a good performance.

Having come out on top twice before against this side this season, we knew with a good performance we could hopefully secure 3 points.

The lads started off well, plenty of possession, looking relaxed and composed on the ball.

The continued pressure, soon saw us go in front through an own goal following a square pass from Sam.

The excellent build up play continued, with a solid display from Charlie and the back 3 of Josh V, Billy and Ruben, playing out from the back with confidence.

The next opening came from a ball over the top from Theo for Sam to run onto, to score low to the keepers left.
Drig kept up the pressure with Kai and Ethan Smith controlling midfield and great play down the wide areas from Harry and Oscar

Just before the break, Drig win a corner, Crofton cleared, only for Sam to grab his 2nd.

HT - 0-3

The message at the break to control possession a lot more, relax and look after the ball, and more importantly we wanted a clean sheet.

2nd half, Crofton came out bright and soon had a shot on goal, Charlie making a great save to preserve a potential clean sheet.

Noah on for Theo just after the break, helped to keep the attacking threat going through the middle. Our 4th soon came from Sam picking up the ball in midfield to put a through pass to Jacob P, who finished to put us 4 up.

The lads continued to manage the game out, with everyone working hard to stop Crofton getting back into the game.
The final break came with a long ball to Sam from Charlie, Sam latching onto the ball to drive through to finish for our 5th.

Overall a superb team performance, with everyone playing their part in securing the points.

Stand out players and getting Joint Man of the Match were Kai and Sam

Kai, played excellent in midfield, working back in front of our defense, and overall great playmaking.

Sam, well taken 3 goals, strong performance on the ball through attacking midfield, spreading the ball out to wide areas

Today we welcomed Rothwell Town to the Moor, where we were looking to secure the win to get us up into the top half of the table.

In windy conditions the game started off pretty balanced, with both sides enjoying plenty of the ball. It was looking like one of those days where either team could strike first.

Drig won a corner on our left hand side, Jacob stead stepped up and crossed the ball into the 6 yard box, up stepped Billy to score his first Drig goal to finish from close range.
The game carried on fairly balanced, although Drig were now starting to settle and put more pressure onto the visitors.
Another breakthrough soon came with a long throw down the left hand side onto Sam making a run in behind, who then put the ball past the keeper from wide.

2-0 up going into the break, and the second half to come with the wind behind us.

Rothwell came out the better in the second half, soon getting a goal back and then closely followed by a 2nd to draw the game level, nervous times and the lads had to dig deep.

Deep in midfield Drig win a free kick just near the halfway line. Sam steps up and sends the free kick into the box onto the head of Josh Green who finishes from close range.

Back in front the lads knew they could see the game out.

The 4th soon came in the last 10 minutes, with another free kick in the visitors half. Sam again was the provider for a fine finish from Kai.

Overall a great battling performance in blustery conditions, the boys dug deep and got the job done ✅

Special mention needs to go to all the lads who kept their discipline in a game where it could’ve been easy to lose heads

3 points in the bag, moved us up to 5th in the table.

Today we travelled over to Woodhouse grove school to play Farsley Celtic away.

However today the game was secondary as both teams stood together with a minutes applause to remember and pay our respects for the sad passing of Ella from Rothwell Juniors girls. We send our condolences, support and thoughts to all Ella’s family and all those at Rothwell Juniors at this sad time.

It reminds us all that grassroots football is a community and we all come together at these times 💖💙🟡🔵⚽️

This morning saw us finally get a game on at home, with recent council pitch closures the start of the year has been disrupted to say the least, although after today’s result still puts us 2 wins in 2 for 2026!!

We welcomed North East Leeds to the Moor this morning, and after beating us 6-0 at their place, were maybe expecting a fairly comfortable 3 points.

Well it wasn’t to be today, the lads prepared and started well, by far the strongest team, and soon went in front from a looping cross from Harry to Jacob P who put the ball home unchallenged.

The game settled in and Leeds started to impose more going forward, an opening soon came with a long through ball forward which caught out our defence and brought them back into the game 1-1.

The lads stuck to it, with Theo and Sam marshalling the midfield. Our 2nd soon came 10 minutes before the break with Jacob P picking up a through ball, sliding it through to Sam in the box, with just the keeper to beat Sam scored to put us 2-1. Leeds were awarded a penalty just before half time, which Charlie read superbly and saved to keep it at 2-1

2nd half started the same, with the game in the balance, although Drig looked well in control and kept pushing for the 3rd, which soon came when Drig won a corner. Leeds defended the corner well, but could only clear to just past the edge of the box, stood waiting was our CDM today Ethan Smith who finished from long range in the top right hand corner.

Leeds soon replied with a break down their right hand side, bringing the score to 3-2 and a nervy final 10 Minutes for Drig.

Sticking to the task and good game management was needed to claim the 3 points and keep us in touch with the top group in the league

Great win today, everyone worked hard in all positions.

A team man of the match was awarded today, as everyone played a part in securing the win.

Highlight of the game, though goes to Ethan Smith for his top bins long range goal 💪⚽️🟡🔵 💥

After a long break since our last match, the lads made the trip over to a foggy Monk Fryston for the 1st game back in 2026

Keen to make a positive start to the new year, Drig made a strong start, controlling possession and keeping Fryston back behind the ball. The breakthrough soon came with a ball from Theo through to Sam to fend off a couple of defenders and finish to make it 1-0 to Drig.

Fryston kept a foot in the game and started to come back with more possession, Drig kept to the task with Charlie and the lads at the back keeping out any threat from Fryston coming forward.

The 2nd soon came for Drig mid way through the 1st half with Theo latching onto a ball from Sam to calmly slot home.

Fryston kept up the pressure coming forward creating a few chances that were dealt with by a solid defence and Charlie as always looking solid in goal.

Our 3rd came from a long cross field ball from Sam to Oscar wide right, who sent in a cross picked up by Kai to superbly finish to make it 3.

Drighlington- 3

The message at half time was to get more control of possession and to try and see out the game with a clean sheet.

Fryston started bright in the 2nd half sending a through ball towards Charlie who unfortunately couldn’t hang on the wet ball and Fryston scored to pull 1 back.

Drig weathered the storm through the 2nd half with more Fryston possession, but the lads soon got control back, Sam beating the offside trap to narrowly put the ball wide.

The reward for not giving up soon came late in the 2nd half, with Drig forcing a corner and Theo scoring straight from the corner kick.

Overall the game was played in good spirits from both sides, Drig got the job done in cold wet conditions, 3 points on the road keeps us still in touch with the teams above with a few games in hand.

Joint Man of the match today goes to Sam and Theo, both solid throughout the game chipping in with some great goals.

Overall the entire squad played their part today with everyone having strong performances

Special mention for our skipper Theo who was congratulated by the referee for been the best captain he’d seen at this age group. Well done Theo keep it up 👏👏👏

After a weeks rest we were back at home welcoming fellow Division 6 side Crofton Pumas back to the Moor in the Challenge Trophy.

After a superbly observed minutes silence by both sides and supporters, we got underway.

The game started off fairly balanced on a sticky pitch, with both sides enjoying plenty of possession. Crofton were the first to make the breakthrough winning a free kick central to edge of our box. Crofton converted going 1-0 up.

The lads had to reset, and soon got level with Sam picking up a loose ball from Crofton playing out and slotted home to make it 1-1

With Drigh now back in the game the lads didn’t let up, and continued to dominate in all areas of the pitch. Drigh soon went in front with a fine finish from Harry.

The lads continued to control play through midfield with Noah looking sharp on the ball and battling hard in the middle.

With further superbly well taken goals from Jacob stead, Theo and Sam assisted by Charlie and Jacob P we went into the break with a 7-1 lead.

After half time, Crofton came out with more energy and enjoyed alot more possession, creating more chances in the opening minutes. All were dealt with superbly by our defensive line and our No1 Charlie, great to have him back after an injury.

Getting through a period of pressure Drigh struck again with Kai picking picking up on a ball from Seth and driving home a shot from the back post.

During the last few minutes the lads were encouraged to keep possession of the ball at the back, it was great to see the lads comfortable on the ball and the game management at the end was excellent

Everyone involved played their part today in an excellent dominant display in the cup.

Player of the match today went to Sam, 4 well taken goals and a great performance up front 👏👏👏

It’s early in the season, but we’re starting to see the lads gel as a squad, the encouragement, work rate and support of each other today was great to see.

Today saw us welcome Ossett United to the Drighlington Moor to try and bounce back from the disappointing defeat last week. With Ossett sitting just above us in the league a win would move us above and keep us in touch with the league leaders.

We started off brightly on the front foot and immediately got our 1st on the board, great transition through midfield with Noah playing the ball out wide to Ethan Smith who then slipped it to Sam in the middle, taking it round the Ossett keeper Sam put the ball away to put us 1 nil up in the first few minutes.

It wasn’t long before Ossett grew into the game pulling it level shortly after then taking a 2-1 lead a few minutes later.
Ossett kept pushing and scored again making it 3-1.

The lads continued to dig deep defending our box superbly, which in turn created a chance for Josh Green to finish to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

The hard work paid off with a ball played through from Sam to Jacob Parkin to slot home to draw us level.

2nd half the boys went out knowing they had to work hard, sometimes with backs to wall and push to try and get the result.

The breakthrough came soon into the 2nd half from a well taken corner from Theo, to be finished at close range from Sam.

With the game in the balance it was possibly going to go either way, with Ossett continuing to create chances.

Oscar getting fouled in the box, presented another opportunity to seal the game from the spot. Theo calmly stepping up and putting the penalty away to make it 5-3.

Ossett kept pushing to the end and soon brought it to within 1 goal to 5-4. Now was the time for the lads on the pitch to be disciplined and solid and see the game out.

A really good and tight game throughout, in the end the lads did what they needed to do to take the win and a well deserved 3 points.

Man of the match today went to Joshua Green, aswell as his goal, he was solid at the back, his partnership with Kai today was excellent 👏👏👏

We travelled over to Roundhay this morning for what was going to be a tough test against the current top of our division.

The thing we found out most after our performance and victory last week is that if performances and levels aren’t kept high then teams can bring you back down to earth.

First half it seemed difficult for the lads to get the spark and energy to get into the game, which soon showed as the home side soon started edging in front, going into the break with a 4-0 lead.
Second half started better with us moving the ball around better and playing and creating more chances higher up the pitch and in the final 3rd.
Pumas managed to weather our storm and went 6-0 up towards the end of the game, if it wasn’t for both of our stand in keepers Jacob and Ethan it could’ve likely been more.
Bad day today, but slight positives in the 2nd half where we looked stronger in all areas.
The lads know what needs to be improved on and transferring the quality and work rate from training to matchdays.

Man of the match today went to Kai, starting off at the back looked composed on the ball. Pushed higher up the pitch into midfield in the 2nd half and again was the catalyst in attack and tracking back to defend 👏👏👏

Onwards and upwards to next week where we’ll be looking for a reaction back at home against Ossett 🟡🔵⚽️

Back to the league today, and if there’s any perfect way for a bounce back from last weeks defeat in the cup, it was for the lads to return with a dominant display in the league.

We welcomed Monk Fryston today, who did the double on us last season, so today was all about a bounce back and to cement ourselves in the league front runners.

From the start glimpses of the lads starting to relax and be a lot more comfortable on the ball started to show.

After the first few minutes Drigh were on the attack down the left and soon went 1-0 up with a fine finish from Noah assisted by Sam.

We continued to dominate the ball with some plenty of possession, with all the lads starting to be alot more comfortable in possession. Sam continued to push down the left hand side cutting in to strike from the edge of the box to make it 2.

As the legs tired in the first half Monk Fryston managed to pull one back, but Drig managed to go into the break with a narrow 2-1 lead.

2nd half pretty much started the same, with our back line keeping cool heads and Drig dominating much of the possession.
The lads attacking soon paid off again with a fine square pass from Seth to Ethan Roper who kept his composure to slot in the 3rd from close range.

Monk Fryston kept pressing and soon got their 2nd, meaning we were going into the final 15 mins with a slender 3-2 lead.

A back pass from the opposition let Drig in with an indirect free kick from the edge of the box, with Josh Green finishing from a touch from Theo. Now 4-2 up the lads could just see the game out.

Last few minutes Seth picked up the ball on the left and was brought down by their Right back, with a free kick awarded at the edge of the box. Up stepped Theo to calmly send the ball into the top right hand corner.

All in all a good solid performance all round today, everybody playing their part to secure a valuable 3 points, keeping us in touch with the teams at the top.

Huge thank you to the 2 lads, Josh G and Ethan Smith who stepped up to do a half each in goal, not easy at all but they did amazing today.

Player of the match today went to Sam, relentless energy in midfield box to box, and found a good balance of when to drive forward and when to play the ball, also great assist and well taken goal 👏👏👏
