The recent heatwave has certainly kept us busy at Longslade Farm & Equestrian! β˜€οΈπŸŒΎ

We’re pleased to say our conventional hay harvest is well under way and will soon be available for sale in packs of 14 bales.

Before any hay leaves the farm, we’ll be carrying out hay analysis. Testing is important because it tells us the nutritional value of the hay, including its energy, protein, fibre and sugar levels. This helps ensure you’re feeding the right forage for your horse’s individual needs.

Although it can be tempting to use freshly baled hay straight away, it’s best to leave it for at least 6–8 weeks before feeding. Newly baled hay continues to cure in store. Feeding hay too soon can increase the risk of digestive upset if it hasn’t fully cured. Therefore we have our customers covered as we still have some of 2025 hay still available.

We’ll keep everyone updated once the test results are back and the hay is ready to go.

Longslade Farm & Equestrian is 235 acre farm in Marshland St. James, Norfolk offering livery services.
Set up in October 2024 the yard has an airy American style 12x12 stable barn housing a maximum of 6 horses. We're a small friendly yard offering 24/7 care with reliable, knowledgeable yard owners living on site. Quality year round turnout, in either herds or individual is available.
All hay/ haylage & straw being made on site making the yard full self sufficient. Miles of off road hacking, with a 30x50m school being built soon! The yard is fully equipped with all the horse and owner may need.
The yard has regular farrier, veterinary, physio, chiropractor and dentistry visits by outstanding professionals which any potential clients will be welcome to use.

Looking back to a fortnight ago when we drilled our spring barley, this crop will supply our stables with a lovely big straw bed. (fingers crossed) the grain will go for malting! 🀞🌾
