Douglas Celts take Manx Cup
The Hartford Homes Manx Cup will take pride of place in the Port-e-Chee trophy cabinet after Douglas Celts beat Southern Nomads 43-5 in the final. Douglas led 12-5 at half time but turned on the power in the second half and raced clear.

A pushover try touched down by skipper Percy Hampton gave Douglas an early lead, with Craig Martin converting. Nomads hit back quickly at the other end through Mikey Craine but a twentieth minute try from Alfie Howard restored the Douglas advantage which they held till the break.

Two quick tries at the beginning of the second half broke Nomads’ resistance. Lewin Scarffe bagged the first, Percy Hampton the second and with Craig Martins conversions Douglas were suddenly 26-5 ahead.

With a big lead comes confidence and Douglas pushed forward full of it. Sam Clarke came on for Lewin Scarffe and he soon scored with Martin again converting and in the very closing stages they picked up two more through Wilf Kermode and Craig McGee to put a little icing on the cake.

Mason hat trick gives Ramsey the Manx Plate
Ramsey beat Vagabonds 35-24 in the Hartford Homes Manx Plate Final to take some silverware back to the Mooragh after a tough season. The highlight of the game being a hat trick from wing Jonny Mason.

Mason put Ramsey ahead early on with Dan Kelly’s conversion making it 7-0. Dan Bonwick pulled one back for Vagas but Brayden Roche crossed for Ramsey from the restart to restore the advantage. Brendan Kelly went in for Vagas but a Dan Kelly penalty at the other end gave Ramsey a 17-10 lead. Just before half time though Matt Rockwell crossed for Vagas and Theo Head’s conversion tied the game at 17-17.

In the second half Jack Cutts intercepted and ran eighty metres to score and when he converted his own try Vagas were in front 24-17. Ramsey were having none of it though. Mason grabbed his second and then Kieran Kneale went in to pit Ramsey back in front 27-24. Kelly’s second penalty extended the lead and Mason’s hat trick try with seven minutes remaining was enough to seal the deal.

🏉 Hartford Homes Manx Cup Final Day – This Saturday

Join us at Port-e-Chee as the island’s rugby community comes together to celebrate Manx rugby across junior and senior competitions.

⏰ 10:30 – U13: Douglas v Southern Nomads
Nomads have only beaten Douglas once this season in the Cheshire competition, so this is a well-matched contest. With quality players on both sides, it’s one to keep an eye on.

⏰ 11:00 – U16: Ramsey v Southern Nomads
A fixture that should bring plenty of physicality and pace, showcasing the strength of youth rugby on the island before they push on to senior rugby.

⏰ 13:00 – Senior Plate Final: Ramsey v Vagabonds
The third meeting between the sides this season, following a draw at the Mooragh and a win for Vagabonds at Ballafletcher—setting things up nicely for a closely contested final.

⏰ 15:00 – Senior Cup Final: Douglas Celts v Southern Nomads
Two familiar rivals this season, with Nomads reaching their first Manx Cup Final. A fitting way to round off the day and a reflection of the strength of local competition.

A day that highlights not just the finals, but the players, volunteers, and clubs that make Manx rugby what it is.

🙏 Thank you to Hartford Homes for their support of the competitions throughout the season.

Get down and support all the teams in what is a true celebration of Manx rugby.

Hoylake claim Cheshire Bowl
Hoylake went off to the better start. They dominated possession for the opening ten minutes and while the Ramsey defence held firm some early indiscipline saw them pinned back in their own half. Twelve minutes in however the defence cracked. Hoylake shipped the ball wide to wing Jake McConville and he showed some fancy footwork to dance over the line. Ross Jones converted for a 7-0 lead.

Ramsey lost second row Jacob Corteen with an ankle injury after twenty five minutes. His replacement Harry Parsons was barely on the field before Hoylake bagged their second try after some loose Ramsey play and some excellent support running. Jones’ conversion was missed and as half time approached the Merseysiders were 12-0 ahead.

As the first half came to an end Hoylake added a third try after a quick tap penalty. Jones’ conversion attempt was missed. With the final play of the half though Ramsey finally got on the scoreboard courtesy of a Dan Kelly penalty which left the Hoylake lead 17-3 at the break.

Any thought of a Ramsey revival was quickly snuffed out early in the second half. Hoylake continued their defensive press and quickly added two more tries to their tally. Ross Jones converted both and the lead was suddenly out at 31-3 with twenty five minutes to play.

There was no joy for Ramsey in the closing stages. Hoylake ran in two more, both converted by Ross Jones which gave them maximum league points and the Cheshire Bowl.

No joy for Vagabonds men
Vagas men were also on the road in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire Minor Conference with a tough trip to Dukinfield who needed just one point from the game to claim the Minor Conference trophy.

The Manchester side won 46-17 to claim their title. Cam Findlay, Reece D’Oliveira and Brendan Kelly all went in for Vagas tries with Findlay converting one.

Vagas Ladies beat champions
Vagas Ladies travelled to unbeaten champions Sale FC 1871 expecting little. They did however take a strong squad and put in a gritty performance to win 31-29.

Their two stars Freya Crowe and Bea O’Neill both weighed in with tries however the strength throughout the squad was underlined with tries from Lauren Ellison, Becky Dunne and Leona McGovern. Skipper Sammie Macdonald added three conversions which proved to be the difference.

The results lifts Vagas to third in the Womens NC 2 North (South) standings but this is likely to be temporary pending Sunday’s matches and they look most likely to be on for a fourth-place finish.

Douglas just miss out
Douglas’ promotion hopes were finally dashed at Vale of Lune where they were edged out 23-18 in the Regional 2 North West play-offs.

Vale led 14-6 at half time in a tight affair with Nathan Robson keeping Douglas in the hunt with two penalties. In the second half Liam Kirkpatrick went over twice for Douglas with Robson converting one but despite outscoring Vale 12-9 in the second half, Douglas’ efforts fell agonisingly short.

Ramsey round off home games with a win
Ramsey finished their home games with a stylish 45-12 win against Congleton at the Mooragh. Their star was unquestionably Brandon Atchison who ran in four tries.

Jake Richmond's opener, converted by Dan Kelly gave them an early lead. Tom Aitchison immediately replied for Congleton with Kaine Reed's conversion levelling the score. Ramsey then ran away with the first half. Skipper Josh Corteen crossed, he was swiftly followed by Dan Kelly and a brace from Brandon Atchison. Kelly's conversions gave Ramsey a 31-7 half time lead.

Despite Ramsey losing Will Millsopp to an early yellow card, the second half remained scoreless until the final ten minutes. Atchison bagged his hat trick try, then Greg Wood went in at the other end for Congleton to give them a slight hope of a try bonus point. As they tried to pour forward however Atchison picked off a late interception to give the scoreboard a glossy look which didn't reflect the toughness of the game.

Vagabonds Ladies miss out on promotion chance
While it was very much an outside chance, a Vagabonds promotion hopes were ended today with a 27-33 home defeat by Didsbury Toc H in Womens NC2 North (South).

Vagas’ flyer Freya Crowe celebrated her fine season with a hat trick of tries and there were also tries from Greeba Taisia and Maisie Murray. Skipper Sammie Macdonald added one conversion.
Vagas have just one game remaining which is away at unbeaten league leaders Sale next Saturday and will be a daunting trip.

Vagabonds Ladies 🆚 Didsbury TOC (H)
📍 Ballafletcher
⏰ 14:00 KO
4th vs 5th and level on 45 points — it doesn’t get much tighter. A win here could push either side into 3rd place 👀

Last time out, Didsbury edged it 32–24, but Vagas have been formidable at home — among the league’s best for points scored and second-best in defence. Ballafletcher won’t be an easy trip.

Regional 2 North West – Play-Off 1
Vale of Lune 🆚 Douglas
📍 Powder House Lane
⏰ 15:00 KO
History made already — Douglas finished 5th, their highest-ever league finish 💪

Now, a new challenge: the play-offs. They travel to 2nd-placed Vale of Lune aiming to kick off their push for promotion to Regional 1.

Counties 3 ADM Minor
Ramsey 🆚 Congleton
📍 Mooragh Park
⏰ 12:30 KO
Final home game of the season for Ramsey 🔵

They host 6th-placed Congleton, who took the win 33–20 in the opening match back in September. Expect Ramsey to come out firing as they look to flip the script on home turf.

Douglas beaten at North Ribblesdale but make promotion play-offs
Douglas needed three points to guarantee a promotion play-off place but champions North Ribblesdale were in no mood for compromise. Douglas started well with a dominant scrum earning a penalty which Nathan Robson converted for a 3-0 lead. After that though the traffic was one way. Four tries from the champions saw them 24-3 ahead by half time and in the second half they exploited Douglas gaps as they threw caution to the wind in attack and ran out 50-3 winners.

The result meant that Douglas had to hope for a favourable result elsewhere to secure their place in the play-offs and they got it. Burnage lost 25-15 away at Sandbach which means that Douglas claimed the final place in the play-offs. Fixtures for these will be confirmed in the very near future.

Vagabonds win but defeat for Ramsey
There was a mixed bag of results for the two Manx sides in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire Minor Conference. Vagas beat Hoylake 32-12 at Ballafletcher and are now temporarily top of the conference standings while Ramsey slipped to bottom following a 26-8 home defeat by title favourites Ormskirk.

Vagas skipper Dan Bonwick led from the front again with two tries, Harry Goodwin, Theo Head, Brendan Kelly and Jack Cutts with Cutts kicking one conversion in the blustery conditions.

At the Mooragh Park Ramsey took an early lead with a Dan Kelly penalty. Ormskirk hit back with two tries from captain James Lang plus one from flanker Christian Lawrence and two conversions from Andy Evans. Josh Corteen pulled one back from Ramsey just before the break and the teams turned around with Ormskirk 19-8 ahead. Andy Evans’ try which he converted himself, was the only score in the second half but gave Ormskirk a bonus point in addition to their win.
